Workdays & Hours: MONDAY – FRIDAY; 8 AM – 4 PM* *Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Focuses primarily on strategic, administrative, and research-oriented analytical projects under our Crime Analysis and Research Unit. Provides analytical support to ongoing special programs including CompStat, and other crime reduction initiatives. Responds to requests for information under the Texas Public Information Act. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Analyzes organized crime patterns. • Compiles and analyses data to find the links between criminals and crimes, and the relationships between criminals and crime groups. • Prepares, edits, and revises reports, special projects, and publications on criminal associations and crime patterns on organized crime, white-collar crime, and major conspiracies. • Interprets, reviews and makes recommendations in the evaluation and design of workflow, processes, policies, and procedures. • May serve as a lead and train less skilled analysts. • Shows demonstrable expertise with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and ArcGIS Pro applications. • All duties and responsibilities may not be included in the above job description. WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions “Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearance where required.” If applicable, the applicant’s past performance evaluations, past and present supervisory recommendations, and/or Internal Affairs complaint history will be reviewed and considered. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Science, Statistics, or a field closely related to the position’s duties and responsibilities. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two years of experience as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst and four years of related experience in a law enforcement agency or in a position with verifiable professional analytical and practical skills. Advanced knowledge of intelligence business systems/databases and statistics. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None. PREFERENCES Preference shall be given to applicants who possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Social Science, Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Science, or another field closely related to the position’s duties and responsibilities. Preference shall be given to applicants who possess the LEAF or CLEA certification from the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), the Basic or CICA certification from the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA), or any state-issued crime and/or intelligence analyst certification. Preference shall be given to applicants who have demonstrable proficiency in the following software applications, computer languages or technologies: Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Pro, R Studio, Python, Power BI, M Language, DAX, or Microsoft T-SQL.
