Department Summary:
MITRE's Nuclear Weapon Systems and C2 Platforms Department is seeking a Lead Cyber Security and Defense Engineer to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors face. We provide technical guidance through rigorous modeling, simulation, and analytical methods to enhance program decision making and risk management. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.
Roles & Responsibilities:
+ Provide technical expertise within MITRE and for our sponsor organizations to ensure delivery of safe, reliable, and effective weapon and C2 systems, while considering a broad range of factors to include system requirements, technology trade-space, and program constraints.
+ Apply proven system security engineering to inform weapon system and C2 platform capabilities, review and test contractor-proposed solutions to ensure they meet requirements and apply new innovative approaches to sponsor security systems engineering challenges.
+ Cultivate strong, trusted working relationships with our sponsors by understanding their needs and helping them solve their toughest challenges.
+ Contribute to technical products, prototypes and/or modeling efforts that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Cyber Security, or a STEM field and 5 years cyber security/defense related experience; or 3 years and a Masters degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute as a senior technical staff; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communications skills for interaction with customers, external organizations, MITRE leadership, and team members.
+ Experience working on collaborative teams and executing tasks with minimal oversight.
+ Experience with applying cyber security engineering to different technology domains, which can include security architecture development, enterprise environments, cloud, and specialized environments such as Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
+ Experience beyond system administration or cyber security compliance practices to developing solutions and recommendations using systems engineering.
+ Working understanding of the Department of the Air Force System Security Engineering Cyber Guidebook (DAF SSECG).
+ Working understanding of the Department of Defense Cybersecurity Test and Evaluation Guidebook.
+ Working understanding of NIST SP 800-53r5 and / or NIST SP 800-160v2r1
+ Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.
+ This position has an on-site working requirement of 5 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with AF nuclear weapon systems, platforms, and/or networks.
+ Working understanding of Zero Trust concepts and implementations.
+ Working familiarity with MITRE cyber-related frameworks.
+ DoD cyber operations experience.
+ DoD cryptographic experience.
+ Success in leading engineering teams in support of defense acquisition programs.
+ Possess an active DoD Top Secret w/SCI clearance.
