Senior Cytotechnologist
Under general supervision, the Cytotechnologist – Senior will assist the manager in all aspects of Cytology oversight and performs diagnostic cytologic evaluation of microscopic slides and cytopreparatory functions.

Education

Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours in an accredited college or

university with at least 14 semester hours in the biological sciences and 12 months

of training in an accredited School of Cytotechnology.

OR                                                     

Successful completion (prior to 1977) of at least 60 semester hours in an accredited college

or university with at least 12 semester hours in science, 8 of which are in biological sciences

      and 12 months of training in an accredited School of Cytotechnology.

Current ASCP Certification in Cytotechnology

Physical Requirements

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 85% of the time; Requires manual dexterity, good visual acuity, including color perception; Light lifting, frequent walking and standing

Working Conditions

Subject to eyestrain due to performance of normal laboratory work; Long periods of sitting at a microscope; Exposure to hazardous chemicals, reagents, and highly infectious materials.  Subject to unpleasant odors and fumes.

Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific needs if applicable. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluates microscopic slides from different anatomic sites; provides diagnostic cytologic interpretation according to established cytomorphologic criteria.  Marks atypical findings for pathologist review per established protocols. Maintains screening volume and speed to ensure optimal workflow and high quality results

Performs and facilitates the performance of cytopreparatory functions to ensure that processing turnaround time standards are consistently met and high quality is maintained.  Initiates corrective action as needed.Assists in and coordinates the preparation of intra-operative consultations per established protocols and within expected turnaround time.  Coordinates multiple technical and clerical tasks to ensure efficient use of time.

Performs quality control, follow-up studies and preventive maintenance per departmental guidelines, in a timely manner.  Consistently provides documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.Participates in the evaluation of instrumentation, procedures and supplies.

Ensures that quality and quantity standards are achieved, as determined by internal policies, accrediting agencies and standards of practice.

Participates in the Laboratory's continuing education program and meets requirements as described in the Laboratory Continuing Education Policy. Shares knowledge gained from seminars, workshops, etc. through formal and informal presentations.

Ensures the Cytology department is adequately supplied by reviewing weekly inventory and ordering as needed.Reviews daily quality control and performs corrective action as required.Assists the manager in writing of new procedures and the biennial reviewing of all cytology procedures.  (Will be the “Owner” of Cytology procedures in Policy Stat).

Assists the manager with the review of all regulatory requirements and prepares for biennial inspections.  Will assist the manager to keep MediaLab Inspection Ready up to date and in compliance.

Pay Range

$31.32 - $51.36

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
