Senior Dangerous Goods Compliance Specialist

A Day in the Life
The Senior Dangerous Goods Compliance Specialist role within the Enterprise Dangerous Goods team will support the safe and compliance movement of Dangerous Goods materials throughout the network.  This role will primarily support product development teams across all Medtronic Operating Units to ensure the proper identification and classification of materials, compliance design of materials and packaging, maintain classification data across several platforms, support the systematic approval of New Product Identification processes, and support continuous improvement of related processes.  

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
•Perform the identification and classification of Dangerous Goods materials across the network and maintain classification data across multiple platforms.
•Provide compliance advice to product development teams within Medtronic Operating Units to ensure classification, safety, and packaging related testing criteria are understood, review testing results to verify compliance, and support managing of test reports.
•Collaborate with global business partners to identify opportunities to incorporate business preferences in the design of new products. 
•Implement and administer compliance policies, procedures, and practices related to dangerous goods.
•Investigate potential compliance gap and verify deficiencies are corrected. 
•Support the development and deployment of training that is focused on the inclusion of dangerous goods requirements in product and packaging design.
•Maintain current knowledge of national and international laws, regulations, and standards relating to the transport of dangerous goods.  
•Coordinate the implementation and management of controls across Operating Unit Product Development and Change Management processes to incorporate dangerous goods classification and product/packaging design requirements.
•Support the systematic review and approval New Product Introduction and Change Management processes.
•Support routine evaluation of inventory to identify materials that require classification.
•Perform ad hoc classification of materials that are identified as potentially dangerous goods throughout the supply chain. 
•Assist in the design and implementation of various process and system improvements related to the classification of dangerous goods and product development processes.
•Support improvement to policies and procedures.
•Maintain a point of view broader than current role. 
•Consider the needs of the entire organization. 
•Demonstrate global thinking in decision making that breaks across silos.
•Engage in special projects or other operational needs as assigned.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree required Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
•4+ years of relevant work experience in dangerous goods compliance related roles
•Previous training in one or more of the following: 49 CFR, ADR, IATA DGR, IMDG, TDG
•Experience with dangerous goods classification criteria under the UN Model Regulations and the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria
•Familiarity with lithium battery transportation testing requirements
•Experience with dangerous goods packaging design, testing, and review of closure instructions
•Experience reading, interpreting, and providing guidance based on dangerous goods regulatory requirements
•Experience creating Excel documents, including pivot tables, formulas, charts, graphs, and functions
•Ability to adapt quickly to change
•Sound analytical skills
•Self-motivated and goal oriented
•Tactful, exercises independent judgment and discretion
•Strong relationship building, communication and interpersonal skills
•Solid business acumen and judgment
