Job Description

Over the past three years, Ultra PCS has transitioned to a new business intelligence and data architecture, centred on SQL Server, SSIS, and Power BI. We've developed an in-house Data Warehouse that serves as our OLAP database and manages most ETL processes. Power BI is then used to consistently deliver high-quality data to our internal teams.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to focus primarily on our Financial and Sales data.

This role has two key areas of responsibility: Firstly, to maintain and manage existing data pipelines. Secondly, working with our Business Analyst and PowerBI expert, to define ETL procedures for new data flows, ensuring the necessary data is available to create compelling dashboards and reports.

The intention is that this role will become a data expert in the following areas: Finance, Sales, and Working Capital. This will provide opportunities to guide data analytics requirements coming out of our departments, as well as doing ‘deep dive’ investigative analysis into the key challenges facing PCS.

Key responsibilities

To work with the Data Systems Director, to help implement PCS’s Business Intelligence Strategy.Maintain and manage PCS’s existing data pipelines, within the Finance/Sales/Working Capital scope of work.Build new data pipelines, providing PowerBI report writers with the information they need to create powerful visualisations.To work on investigative data analysis projects, using data to drive efficiencies into department’s workflows.To propose improvement projects to improve data quality at source.To manage stakeholders and gather requirements for new dataset transformations.Use of analytical techniques to clean, transform, analyse, and interpret data.Work closely with Business Analysts, PowerBI front-end designers, and end-users, to ensure solutions created meet business requirements and are delivered in a timely manner.Ensure development of database architecture, and data pipelines, are documented in line with PCS policies.

Qualifications / skills required

Good knowledge of Data warehousing theories and methodologies.Expert knowledge of SQL and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).Good knowledge of PowerBI (or similar), and data modelling for reporting.Strong experience of reporting on data from ERP & Manufacturing/Operations Systems.Strong experience of working with sales and finance data.Familiarity with transactional database systems.Excellent communication skills both written and in-person.Has the ability to self-manage.Enjoys working at speed, when necessary, but also able to plan and consider options.
