About the Role
A Senior Data Scientist I should be able to define scope of a project with support of managers and execute that project independently. Individuals in this role can also support the development and training of junior staff. Senior Data Scientist I should be self-sufficient in executing basic methods, and work within their teams to execute increasingly sophisticated approaches to deliver outcomes. They should also support the development of best practices.
Responsibilities
+ Deep Industry Understanding and Excellent Communication: Utilize profound knowledge of auto insurance technical pricing and market pricing to work closely with product, sales, and data teams. Support diverse customer test projects, including product test, implementation and client communication, ensuring smooth project delivery. This responsibility accounts for no less than 40% of the role.
+ Data Wrangling and Evaluation: Leverage strong data handling skills to do complex data cleaning and processing tasks, providing essential modeling support to the modeling needs of the analytics team and quickly evaluating the value of new data sources.
+ Analysis and Modeling: Based on a thorough understanding of client needs and product requirements, participate in project development, data exploration, value assessment, model building, deployment, and related analyses. Collaborate closely with the product team to design model application solutions, creating analytical products.
+ Industry Knowledge and Continuous Learning: Stay informed about the latest developments in the auto insurance industry, actuarial field, and data science, providing the team with updates on new technologies and industry insights. Assist in preparing presentations or promotional materials to enhance the company's influence and value.
Requirements
+ Bachelor's degree or higher, with at least 3 years of experience in actuarial pricing modeling in an auto insurance department, actuarial department, or regional actuarial field.
+ Proficiency in Python or SAS, with experience in modeling and project work using GLMs (Generalized Linear Models), GBDT/XGBoost/LightGBM/CatBoost, or other machine learning algorithms, emphasizing a strong understanding and application of machine learning models.
+ Advanced data processing skills with a deep understanding of and experience in applying data science libraries such as numpy, pandas, and sklearn. Extensive experience in data cleaning and standardization, with the ability to efficiently respond to data processing and analysis requirements.
+ Proficiency in SQL and other database languages, with the ability to flexibly apply them for data processing. Familiar with Tableau or Power BI for data visualization, enabling completion of analysis and statistical reporting tasks.
+ Sharp data insight and analytical skills, rigorous logical thinking, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a collaborative team spirit with the ability to work under pressure.
+ Experience as a member of the CAA industry auto insurance rate calculation group is preferred; candidates with actuarial pricing experience at a top 10 insurance company will be given priority; experience in auto insurance actuarial pricing, data science, or deep learning is a plus.
