This senior role will be a key part of the UST UK Data Science team, which has achieved great recognition and results in its short life. The Senior Data Scientist will lead engagements with external clients and internal stakeholders, understand their strategic needs, and deliver high-impact insights, recommendations, and innovative solutions to shape their actions. They will also mentor junior data scientists and interns, fostering their professional growth and development.
This position involves applying cutting-edge analytical methodologies, including advanced predictive modeling, sophisticated recommendation engines, and complex statistical assessments on large-scale, often disparate datasets. Deliverables will range from executive-level reports and presentations to the development of advanced prototypes and interactive dashboards.
The ideal candidate will possess a rare blend of skills, including expert-level programming, advanced data analysis and statistics, as well as exceptional data-led storytelling, communication, and business acumen. Additionally, we seek individuals with proven ability in creative problem-solving, innovative thinking, and the capacity to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
You will frequently lead scrum teams, collaborating with data scientists, ML engineers, and analyst developers to architect and implement end-to-end data science solutions, from data ingestion to model deployment and automation.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for high-profile clients, understanding their complex business objectives and data landscape. Act as a trusted advisor to recommend sophisticated, data-driven solutions that align with their long-term strategic goals.
• Lead the delivery of both ad-hoc analysis requests and proactive, high-value research initiatives, presenting findings through executive-level documents, interactive dashboards, and compelling presentations.
• Design and implement advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze large-scale datasets and derive actionable insights. Develop state-of-the-art predictive models, optimization algorithms, and data visualizations to solve complex business problems.
• Architect end-to-end data science solutions tailored to the specific needs of each client. Lead cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate analytical models into client systems and processes.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data scientists, fostering their professional development and cultivating a culture of continuous learning within the team.
• Drive knowledge sharing initiatives across wider functions, developing best practices for transforming raw data into valuable analytical assets and creating reusable, scalable analytical and visualization methods.
Skills/Experience:
• MSc/PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent extensive work experience.
• Substantial experience (5+ years) as a Data Scientist or in a similar senior role, with a proven track record in consulting or client-facing environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in creating actionable insights that drive business value, with the ability to communicate complex findings to C-level executives and non-technical stakeholders.
• Advanced proficiency in data science programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) with a portfolio of complex projects and contributions to open-source communities.
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in deploying ML models and advanced analytics in cloud production environments. Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) are highly desirable.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, with excellent project management and stakeholder management skills.
• Track record of thought leadership, such as conference presentations, published papers, or patents in the field of data science or machine learning.
