Senior Database Administrator - Remote

Hours: 40 hours per week - Monday through Friday in east coast hours. Will require on-call work and occasional (around once per month) off hours/overnight work.

Location: Fully Remote; may require up to 10% travel for training, events, etc.

Job Profile Summary 

​This role focuses on the design, development, and implementation of information technology (IT) solutions in order to meet the organization's needs through new and existing applications, systems architecture, network systems and applications infrastructure and the management of the IT infrastructure.  In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Analytics related duties: Performs complex data research and analysis to support business operations, creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets, researches and applies knowledge of existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform business decisions, and may conduct scientific research projects with the goal of breaking new ground in data analytics.  A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs.  The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education.  A senior level role that requires advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.  Typically responsible for: managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision, coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals, resolving difficult and sometimes complex problems. 

 

Job Overview 

This position designs, installs, maintains, troubleshoots and optimizes database instances for departmental and enterprise-wide systems that provides a cutting-edge high-visibility and high-availability healthcare IT ecosystem to physicians, patients and employees. Evaluates and integrates new database system versions, drivers and hardware. Provides technical expertise for system transitions, migrations and consolidations. Manages physical, virtual and cloud-based operational databases.  

 

Job Description 

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Bachelor’s degree. 

2. Certifications in Epic ODBA, Epic ECSA, Data Courier Certification, or Chronicles Certification. 

3. Eight (8) years of relevant experience including Epic ODBA/ECSA. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Clarity Certification(s). 

2. Experience with storage systems, cloud services, security and networking infrastructure.  RedHat Linux Administration

 

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

 

1. Accountable for contributing to the technical architecture and supporting the day-to-day operations, support and management of the cloud hosted healthcare application ecosystem. 

2. Leads staff and sets project goals, requirements, and schedules. 

3. Leads and coordinates the work of the Epic ECSA/ODBA team.  

4. Supervises and performs the installs, upgrades, maintenance and support database software and Windows related applications on selected server platforms and ensures license compliance. 

5. Manages storage associated with databases and assists system administrators with storage allocation and planning related to the database. 

6. Monitors, optimizes and troubleshoots the performance of database instances and applications in a networked environment. 

7. Designs and implements viable database backup, recovery, and high availability strategies and mechanisms.  

8. Creates, maintains and ensures documentation of team processes and procedures, including operating manuals or training materials for internally managed databases and systems. 

9. Executes database recovery, restoration, and/or restart as required. 

10. Monitors and optimizes database instance using database administration tools, SQL scripts, and database utilities.  

11. Monitors and configures database parameters accordingly. 

12. Defines and implements database parameters, security, audit, and resource allocation policies and procedures.  

13. Defines, creates, and manages user accounts, profiles, privileges, roles, and required audit information.  

14. Designs, implements and performs data extraction, data load, data conversion and interfacing and database synchronization routines and functions. 

15. Communicates and coordinates with other teams (Linux, Oracle, Windows, Network, SAN etc.) related to database, application and environment support and projects. 

16. Keeps abreast of current and emerging database trends/technologies.  

17. Attends training and educational seminars as required.  

18. Provides technical expertise to outside vendors, contractors, EIS management and other EIS staff as needed. 

19. Provides on-call support for the ECSA/ODBA team (24/7 weekly rotation.)  

20. Mentors and supports ECSA/ODBA team members during their on-call rotations when assigned.  

21. Participates and offers expertise in critical-call event management.  

22. Manages the on-call rotation of ECSA/ODBA staff members. 

23. Maintains version control, administration of scripts for file manipulation and programming access to multiple environments. 

24. Responsible for daily build migrations working closely with application and change teams.  

25. Analyze and troubleshoot migration issues and mitigate the fixes and resolutions. 

26. Conducts cross-team training and lessons learned sessions.  

 

Physical Requirements:  

1. Professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. 

2. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending / descending stairs and operate office equipment. 

3. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate and exchange information. 

4. Able to see and read computers displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols. 

5. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

6. Ability to work in confined or open environments. 

7. Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

10. Strong interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with diverse skill sets and personalities. 

11. Ability to provide mentorship, team leadership and work effectively as a team player. 

12. Project management skills for cross-team and internal projects. 

13. Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems and tools. 

14. Knowledge of latest Epic/Cache versions. 

15. Skilled in project management, systems, and database administration and integration, user relations and vendor interactions.
