eBay is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff (Database Engineering) for their Data Infrastructure organization, that builds and runs petabyte scale core data platform that powers large scale database, storage, caching and media infrastructure. This position will have the opportunity to architect, build and operate the next generation distributed database and storage platform that powers some of the most critical systems powering eBay’s global ecommerce business! You will be responsible for scaling eBay’s core data infrastructure by working closely with other engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.

A highly skilled and results-driven Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) and Developer with extensive experience in managing, optimizing, and developing database systems using PostgreSQL. Proven expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, high availability setups, complex query optimization, and full-stack database development. A solid track record of implementing innovative solutions, improving system performance, and ensuring the availability and security of mission-critical applications.

Core Competencies:

PostgreSQL Administration: Expert in installing, configuring, and maintaining PostgreSQL instances in production, staging, and development environments.

Database Performance Optimization: Advanced skills in query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies to boost database performance.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Skilled in setting up replication (synchronous & asynchronous), failover mechanisms, and backup strategies to ensure maximum uptime and data protection.

Scalability & Load Balancing: Experience in implementing horizontal and vertical scaling techniques, managing large datasets, and balancing loads to improve performance.

Database Security: Ensuring database security through access control, encryption, and regular audits to protect sensitive data and comply with industry standards.

SQL & PL/pgSQL Development: In-depth knowledge of writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers for both transactional and analytical applications.

Data Migration & ETL: Expertise in migrating large volumes of data across different PostgreSQL instances and performing ETL operations.

Cloud Infrastructure: Experience in deploying and managing PostgreSQL databases on cloud platforms like AWS (RDS, EC2), Azure, and GCP.

DevOps & Automation: Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools like Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes for seamless PostgreSQL deployment and management.

What you will do:

Design, develop and deploy robust and scalable software applications/ tools for Database Engineering Team.

Build and implement new experiences, improve existing products and develop new tools powering database infrastructure that supports world’s largest E-Commerce websites at a large scale.

Collaborate with the Database Engineering team to understand their requirements, formulate use cases, and deliver results.

Estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues related to tools.

Aggregate information and convert abstract concepts into viable products using Java/Python/Go/Perl Fundamentals. Participate in brainstorming sessions and supply ideas to the team.

Communicate well and take initiative to improve processes and seek opportunities for growth and innovation.

What you will Bring:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science plus 10+ years of experience or MS in Computer Science plus with hands-on experience in programming.

A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in coding, adapting to new technologies;

8-10 years experience required;

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required;

Experience performing in-depth troubleshooting and unit testing with both new and legacy production systems;

Experience in programming and experience with problem diagnosis and resolution.
