The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for managing, optimizing, and maintaining high-transaction, high-volume databases for SAAS applications. This includes leveraging expertise in MSSQL, cloud database solutions (AWS/Azure), and application development to ensure optimal performance and scalability. The role requires a strong ability to work independently, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to database-related CI/CD processes, blending database development and DevOps responsibilities.

Essential Functions

Manage, configure, and maintain MSSQL databases, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability. Design and implement high-volume transactional database models for SAAS applications. Proactively monitor database performance and ensure optimal resource utilization. Work as an Application DBA, performing performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing to maintain efficient database operations. Diagnose and troubleshoot database-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime. Configure and manage cloud-based database solutions on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or similar. Implement cloud-based database best practices, ensuring secure and scalable deployments. Collaborate with development teams to integrate database solutions with applications. Provide expertise in CI/CD pipelines for database-related deployments. Support and resolve deployment package issues, ensuring seamless database deployment processes. Contribute to automation and continuous improvement in database-related DevOps practices. Manage multiple database systems and ensure interoperability when required. Stay updated with the latest database technologies and recommend improvements or migrations. Collaborates with other technical architects and developers to ensure cohesion of the overall software platform and work in coordination with developers and systems administrators in order to meet the needs and specifications of current projects. Follow all modern standards and best practices for database security, availability, integrity and recovery in compliance with company policy. Act as a steward and protector of the company's data stored in production databases, upholding the highest ethics and integrity in their position.

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 5-8 years of experience as a Database Administrator, primarily in MSSQL environments. Proven experience in application development and support as an Application DBA. Strong expertise in optimizing high-transaction, high-volume databases for SAAS applications. Hands-on experience with cloud database platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.). Proficiency in CI/CD tools and pipelines, with a background in development and DevOps. Ability to troubleshoot complex database and application performance issues. Strong knowledge of database design, modeling, indexing, and optimization techniques.

Preferred work experience and skills:

Experience with additional databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL). Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture. Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or similar). Experience in managing database security and compliance. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration abilities. Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
