Job Title: Design Checker
Job Description
We are currently seeking a Design Checker to join the Drafting and Design Department. We specialize in Air Pollution Control Systems primarily in power plants, paper mills, and refineries, with complete capabilities to engineer, design, fabricate, and erect Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), Baghouses, Support Structures, Boiler Buildings, Ductwork, Access, and related components.
Responsibilities
+ Check drawings for heavy industrial structures, mechanical componentry, stiffened platework, support steel, and access.
+ Review field erection and shop fabrication detail drawings for accuracy versus design drawings.
+ Analyze specifications, design data, sketches, and related engineering drawings.
+ Verify critical factors and dimensional accuracy.
+ Confer with engineering and design staff to assist in resolving design issues.
+ Check field erection and shop drawings generated by others.
+ Conduct site surveys and equipment inspections.
+ Travel as required, no more than 2-6 trips per year, with each trip being about 2-3 nights away.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D design with at least 5 years of experience.
+ Ability to understand concepts provided by engineering.
+ Experience in structural and mechanical design.
+ Ability to confer with engineering and design staff to assist in resolving design issues.
+ Proficiency at applying reasoning to produce practical solutions.
+ Ability to write technical correspondence.
+ Experience with Heavy Industrial projects (power plants, paper mills, chemical plants, and refineries).
+ Clear English communication skills, both written and spoken.
+ Willingness to work in the office full time.
+ Willingness to do site surveys and equipment inspections, including in confined spaces.
+ Ability to obtain field measurements, climb ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms.
+ US Citizenship required, due to government contracts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Advance Steel, Graitec, and Tekla.
+ Experience in shop fabrication and detailing.
+ Familiarity with BIM and 3D design.
Work Environment
The work environment includes some travel, no more than 2-6 trips per year, typically for 2-3 nights away per trip. Most work is completed in the office. The team consists of 7 Designer/Detailers reporting to the Design Manager. The project team includes Project Managers, Lead Engineers, and a Lead Designer. The environment is family-owned with regular access to and interaction with the owners. Projects are diverse in complexity and size, ranging between $10,000 and $60,000,000. The company is ASME U Stamp and National Board R Stamp Certified. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
