Responsibilities

Job Purpose

Pattern has recently embarked on a digital transformation initiative designed to modernize our application and data infrastructure, focusing initially on a rebuilt data platform, governance framework, and the elimination of siloed systems and practices. Our goal on the Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA) team is to build a culture of data at Pattern, democratize access, and improve the quality and timeliness of our data estate.

 

One of Pattern’s most advanced data use cases has manifested within the Integrated Energy System Planning (ESP) team. As part of Pattern’s Fundamentals group, the ESP team focuses on weather-integrated energy grid simulations to help Pattern make decisions for the development and operation of its assets. As a Senior DevOps engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the ESP software product teams (primarily focused on the Pattern in-house WIS:dom for big data across weather, energy pricing, and geospatial data. You will collaborate closely with software development and operational support team members, in both ESP, across Fundamentals (including meteorology, geospatial technologies, and market intelligence and strategy) and Enterprise technology to implement best practices, drive continuous improvement and help take big-data analysis to a next level of optimization that can produce real-time market intelligence. The key responsibility for the Senior DevOps Engineer is to establish, document, and operationalize where possible continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines as well as enable solutions for performance management, change management processes and efficient deployment of internal software/data/model changes.

 

Key Accountabilities

Build roadmaps of teams representing upstream dependencies to help improve deployment capabilities. Design, implement and maintain a robust and efficient system for the Energy System Planning (ESP) team to enable end-to-end communication between model inputs, outputs and WIS:dom co-optimization software.Responsible for process controlling dataset and script versioning, environments, testing and controls for improving software collaboration and data flow from data inputs through modelling software and model outputs.Collaborate with in-team software and model development teams to optimize application performance, reliability, and observability and establish continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines for modeling processes, addressing performance and flow bottlenecksEnsure provisioning of sufficient compute and data storage for Energy Systems Planning team needs and act as liaison to broader Enterprise Technology TeamStay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices for rapid deployment, and cloud technologies, and contribute to continuous process and infrastructure enhancements.Collaborate with IT security teams to ensure compliance with security policies and implement necessary controls and security permissions while adhering to contractual obligations for ingested and exported data to third parties.Drive compliance with IT operations processes, change management and consistent QA/QC. Identify automation pathways that can enhance analysis and address QA/QC processes.Perform root cause analysis for production issues, performance issues and incidents to address and prevent them from repeating. Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

BS degree in computer science or engineering required.3-5 years of experience in product development, software development, or software engineering. Ideally background in large dataset management, with familiarity with optimization software (GAMS), Python, and energy systems and/or weather data 3-5 years experience with experience with data mapping/ingestion/pipelines preferred experience with Azure Databricks, SQL, DBT, and DVC3-5 years of demonstrated experience working in technical environment where Agile and DevOps principles were applied.Experience managing or been integral part of teams managing development and operations lifecycles including coding, infrastructure management, system administration.Technical certifications desired (AWS, Microsoft, GCP, others)Energy and/or meteorological data background highly desirable

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $118,000 - $160,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
