About the Team:
The Steady-State Operations & Technical Manager will oversee daily steady-state operations across multiple teams, manage escalations, ensure efficient resource allocation, and improve service delivery. We are looking for deep technical expertise, strong project management skills, and experience in managing offshore vendor engagements. You will act as a bridge between R&D and steady-state operations, ensuring seamless transitions and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
– Adopt the CIS R&D data Vision working on the data vision and roadmap, ensuring understanding of Medidata's goals.
– Develop business cases and present data opportunities, and additional offerings to leadership.
– Collaborate with R&D, design, engineering, and business leaders.
2. Operational Management:
– Oversee the daily operations of steady-state services, ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and client expectations.
– Monitor important performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement strategies to improve performance.
– Manage workloads across multiple delivery teams to ensure balanced resource allocation.
– Collaborate with team leads to align operational goals and maintain high-quality deliverables.
– Work with the offshore manager to define training and quality improvements for offshore teams, ensuring global alignment and collaboration.
– Resource management responsibilities include strategic allocation for steady-state work.
3. Escalation Management:
– Be the primary escalation point for critical issues affecting steady-state operations.
– Manage a standardized escalation process to ensure timely resolution of client and internal issues.
– Work with cross-functional teams to analyze and address root causes of escalations, implementing long-term solutions to minimize future occurrences.
4. Technical Leadership:
– Adopt in steady state ETL pipelines that comply with regulatory standards and develop data integration solutions.
– Collaboration with CIS Complex Integrations team to implement data ingestion solutions in every day work..
– Experience and focus on data reconciliation, regulatory standards, and addressing data quality issues from diverse sources.
– Provide deep technical guidance and mentorship to teams handling scripts, reports, data extracts, integrations, and custom functionality.
– Lead technical reviews and ensure best practices in software development, testing, and performance optimization.
– Stay updated on the latest technologies and recommend technical improvements to improve operations.
5. Vendor and Offshore Management:
– Manage relationships with offshore vendors, ensuring agreement on organizational goals and service quality standards.
– Oversee offshore resource performance, provide technical direction, and ensure collaboration between onshore and offshore teams.
– Develop training and quality improvement programs for offshore teams, enhancing technical capabilities and operational efficiency.
– Guide communication between offshore teams and onshore managers to ensure smooth collaboration and project execution.
6. Resource and Project Management:
– Allocate resources between steady-state tasks, minimizing conflicts and ensuring productivity.
– Report on project progress, resource use, and operational Goals.
– Implement continuous improvement projects to improve workflows and reduce operational costs.
7. Client Engagement and Communication:
– Be the point of contact for clients, providing updates on steady-state operations and addressing any concerns proactively.
– Collaborate with the Client Advisory team to align service delivery with client expectations and strategic goals.
– Support pre-sales and client engagement activities by providing technical insights and showcasing operational capabilities.
– Involvement in pre-sales and engagement activities with a technical focus, aligning with client strategic goals.
– Clear communication tailored to various partners.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus. 15+ years of experience in technical operations, software development, or IT services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.– Experience managing offshore vendor engagements and driving quality improvements.
– Background in software engineering, data processing, and infrastructure management.
– Deep experience in engineering, particularly within clinical trials, and understanding GCP and regulatory standards.
– Understanding of cloud platforms, data governance, and latest technologies.
– Strong focus on strategic thinking, vision setting, and driving adoption of new technologies.
Technical Skills:– Proficient in scripting, data extraction, and reporting tools (e.g., Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Airflow, Flask, React).
– Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools like Kafka, Flink, Docker, and performance monitoring solutions.
– Understanding of automation frameworks and testing methodologies.
Project Management:– Experience in resource allocation, project planning, and using tools like Jira or similar for tracking and managing deliverables.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
Soft Skills:– Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
– Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
– Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Additional qualifications:
Experience working in the life sciences or clinical research industry. Certifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP, Agile) or IT Service Management (e.g., ITIL). Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and experience with data governance and compliance.Key Competencies:

Strategic Thinking: Ability to align daily operations with long-term strategic goals and client needs.As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the NYC Metro Area is 184,500 – 246,000.Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
