The Senior Director of Collaboration Planning will have a direct impact on the planning and execution of a new collaboration between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center including planning of the proposed adult inpatient hospital. The Dana-Farber Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Collaboration will advance Dana-Farber's long-term goal of creating a fully integrated oncology campus for adult inpatient and outpatient care, as well as research.

The Senior Director of Collaboration Planning has expert knowledge of project planning, facilitation, growth planning, strategic planning, partnership development, and implementation principles with advanced leadership skills. This position in the Planning and Consulting team oversees large, complex, multi-disciplinary matrixed clinically focused-workstreams related to collaboration planning. In addition to project work and overall team management, the Senior Director provides internal consulting tools, structure, and mentorship both within and outside of the department and is responsible for ensuring that the work of the planning team is well coordinated with other groups across the Institute and across clinical partners. The Senior Director is responsible for the management and development of up to 6 Planning and Consulting team members. They will oversee the management of the planning coordination with BI as well as provide expert, consulting-focused leadership to the Planning and Consulting group.

Responsibilities Leads Institute-level projects including planning of new programs, new partnerships, new clinical locations, and new services.Independently interacts with internal and external stakeholders to influence & implement strategic business decisions. Identifies strategic growth opportunities and designs projects and initiatives to ensure that they are positioned for success.Develops business cases for strategic programs and initiatives. Proactively identifies opportunities for Institute-wide internal consulting engagements aimed at avoiding costly external consulting fees. Implements expertise with managing complex projects and initiatives and guiding others to find solutions to meet unique needs of the key stakeholders.Leads a structured approach to analyze complex issues, identify implications of various alternatives, generate options, and recommend a solution to stakeholders to reach desired outcome. Works collaboratively with stakeholders to create and execute project roadmaps during each phase of the project life cycle.Oversees and directs analysis, research and projections for complex negotiations and strategic decisions; develops systems to organize and analyze data and coordinates flow of information between hospital departments and external partners.Oversees ad hoc research and due diligence relating to new projects and initiatives; translates business and competitive intelligence research back into projects.Allocates work to appropriate business units; holds members accountable for follow up; maintains relationships with stakeholders and keeps them up to date on project status.On an ongoing basis, ensures the success of projects and relationships based on defined KPIs, milestones and partner feedback, ensuring that the team continues to perform against stakeholder needs and expectations.Develops and defines project infrastructure (work plans, timelines, resources, milestones, KPIs, etc.); anticipates, identifies, manages and resolves risks to project status, milestones, timelines; develops and presents updates/metric reports to leadership.Oversees development of meeting materials (e.g., agendas, presentations, etc.) and other written materials (e.g. business plans, etc.). Articulates recommendations or options to support a definitive decision.Oversees joint planning efforts with anticipated new clinical partners.Leads the creation of expectations for teamwork products based on consulting best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises up to 6 Planning and Consulting team members.Hires, mentors, and advises, assigns, and evaluates work, reviews performance formally at least annually, recommends promotion and salary adjustments and takes corrective action.Allocates managers’ time appropriately between projects and negotiates with stakeholders when priorities need to be shifted.Directs individuals and teams in organizing work, setting priorities and timelines, and determining and obtaining the resources required to meet those priorities. Mentors others to refine skills in communicating effectively, influencing stakeholders, facilitation, negotiation, project management and business development skills, as well as overall career development.Provides guidance to others on specific strategies to identify stakeholder needs and expectations and address them effectively.Provides professional development opportunities for Planning Managers and other Department staff.Develops standardized tools and templates, dashboards, and engagement letters to ensure effective project execution and optimal communication. Coordinates with Planning Managers and senior leadership to escalate and resolve risks. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree (MPH, MHA, MBA) preferred.15 years of relevant project management experience in a health care and/or consulting environment required.5 years of management experience required.
