Role Overview

As the Competitive Intelligence (CI) lead for Oncology:

Lead a team of four direct reports providing CI activities for marketed and pipeline products across Gilead’s tumors of interest, including the collection, synthesis and delivery of key insights and implications to our business

Support decision-making and foster a competitive mindset across the organization

Collaborate with diverse partners including Global Commercial Strategy, US Commercial, Corporate Development, Corporate Strategy, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Research, Regulatory, and Legal

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Define CI priorities for the Oncology TA in collaboration with key stakeholders to proactively address key business decisions

Drive alignment and communication to leadership on key competitive events and implications

Define team roles & responsibilities as well as mentor and develop the team

Competitive Analysis

Provide context and objective analysis of competitive information (commercial, clinical, and scientific)

Serves as a strategic advisor to Senior Leadership, Commercial Team Leads and Program Strategy Leads on competitive landscape including threat assessment and support for development decisions on internal pipeline

Assess competitive dynamics, competitor pipelines, product profiles, strategy and activities to inform a wide range of decisions from clinical development to positioning and investment strategy

Lead conference coverage including analysis of clinical data and commercial presence

Translate competitive information into actionable insights for Gilead

Support Corporate Development in identification and evaluation of external opportunities

CI Capabilities

Define and pull-through best practices on CI methodologies for the oncology team

Deliver quarterly updates on competitive events to Senior Leadership & Board

Manage the Competitive Intelligence Budget for the Therapeutic Area, including spend on ongoing agency support and database purchases

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work with the other CI therapeutic area leads to improve overall effectiveness of the CI function and promote best practice sharing

Lead key cross-oncology projects and CI functional projects, as appropriate

Partner with third-party agencies to support CI projects

Ensure legal and ethical approaches to CI, protecting business interests and confidentiality

Key Skills

Strong leadership and people management abilities

Proficiency in CI research, analysis, and strategic insight development

Technology savvy with experience implementing innovative solutions

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Experience presenting to Senior Leadership

Strong project management, prioritization, and time management skills

Deep understanding of pharma sector, including clinical development and commercial strategies

Proficiency with online data sources and scientific/market databases

Experience successfully coordinating interactions and alignment across multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams, including leading competitive workshops

Commitment to Gilead's patient-centric values and high ethical standards

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 14 years of experience, master’s degree and 12 years of experience, or PHD and 12 years of experience

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (typically less than 10% of time)

Preferred Qualifications:

BA/BS degree required; Masters, PhD, or equivalent graduate degree preferred (life science discipline a plus)

Minimum 10 years in Competitive Intelligence, Consulting, Medical Affairs, or Commercial roles

Previous team management experience preferred

Experience in Oncology required

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (typically less than 10% of time)


 

The salary range for this position is: $255,425.00 - $330,550.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
