Senior Director, Compliance & Ethics Program

I. Job Summary Work with the Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer to assist and oversee that WM and its operating areas are in compliance with all applicable external rules, regulations and laws and Company policies and procedures. The focus of the position will include the development, implementation, and monitoring of an effective compliance and ethics program, advising on emerging compliance topics and issues, and ensuring the Company is proactively addressing its compliance risks. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. + Develop an annual compliance work plan that monitors and addresses the Company’s highest compliance risks. + Facilitate and oversee compliance & ethics program risk assessment process. + Serve as a point of contact for compliance and ethics questions and guidance, as needed. + Manage and oversee the review and approval processes related to conflicts of interest and gifts and business entertainment. + Manage and oversee international counterparty onboarding and review processes. + Develop a comprehensive training and communication plan that ensures that all levels of the organization maintain knowledge of Company policies and procedures and external laws, rules and regulations. + Develop and deliver in-person/live and web-based trainings and presentations focused on effective compliance programs and a culture of integrity. + Develops policies and programs to encourage managers and employees to SPEAK UP without the fear of retaliation when they observe or suspect compliance issues. + Monitor, assess, and audit the compliance and ethics program and develop methods for tracking progress. + Develop strategic compliance initiatives, policies, and procedures that will proactively identify compliance issues and/or continuously enhance all compliance efforts. + Meet with department heads to discuss potential improvements in compliance policies and processes. + Prepare periodic reports for senior management summarizing the state of the compliance and ethics program. + Manage or independently investigate and act on matters related to compliance, as needed. + Act as a point of contact for government investigations and administrative inquiries related to compliance issues or external audits. + Prepare and manage an annual department budget and compliance plan. + Supervise and provide leadership to other roles on the compliance team by coaching, clear communication, and relationship building. + Collaborate and develop relationships with employees and managers throughout the company to facilitate consistent implementation and maintenance of the compliance and ethics programs in various functions and areas. III. Supervisory Responsibilities This role will have direct supervisory responsibilities. IV. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. A. Education and Experience + Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and ten (10) years of relevant work experience. Law degree is preferred, but not required. + Experience: eight (8) years' previous compliance related experience (in addition to education requirement). B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements + State Bar Licensure is preferred, but not required. C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities In addition to the following skills, it is beneficial to have a background with compliance related experience. + Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint). + Ability to practice Human Centered Leadership when managing a team. + Strong project coordination/project management, organizational and planning skills. + Ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities with strong attention to detail. + Excellent analytical and communication skills (both verbal and written). + Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with key stakeholders at all levels of management. + Creative and collaborative problem-solving ability with a continuous improvement mindset.
