The opportunity

This could be your chance to practice groundbreaking law for an innovative global tech company! eBay seeks an agile and creative senior attorney to join the legal team supporting eBay’s product and technology organizations reporting to the VP and Deputy General Counsel for Product, Technology, Payments, Risk and Growth.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be the senior legal advisor for leaders of eBay’s global Product and Technology teams, providing legal guidance on the design and roll out of new features and functionality, categories, policies and products on eBays marketplaces globally.

Your thought leadership will enable eBay to provide magical customer experiences and achieve bold objectives by finding creative solutions whilst adopting appropriate levels of risk.

You will develop and deliver the legal strategy for key areas of our user experience, analyzing and advising on regulatory, IP, privacy, artificial intelligence & machine learning, marketing and consumer protection matters.

You will lead, develop, and inspire a team of legal professionals.

You will work closely with specialists in our broader legal/GR department such as IP, Privacy, Litigation and global attorneys across eBay to provide business-focused, end-to-end legal support and solutions.

You will also interact regularly with other functional groups within the Company, including Payments, Trust, Risk, Accounting, Corporate Development, Tax, and Information Security.  

Requirements:

12+ years of post-qualification experience in the technology space, with a preference for multi-jurisdiction platform-based business models  

Strong product counseling experience, especially in a marketplace, shared economy, or similar business models  

Experience in the following areas desired: Privacy/data protection, Regulatory, Intellectual property, Consumer protection, Commercial structuring, drafting, and negotiation  

Ability to develop, inspire and lead a team of diverse legal professionals  

Consistent record of thinking strategically and providing strong legal analysis, but also practical business recommendations   

Can independently lead and deliver across multiple top-priority projects for yourself and your team  

Ability to build positive relationships quickly and interact with and influence business leaders at all levels and across a complex matrix of global collaborators with ease  

Flexible and agile problem solver, with the ability to tolerate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment  

Ability to love innovation, be a change maker, and believe that there is always room for improvement   

Open mind with respect to the scope and variety of projects to be undertaken  

Thrives in fast-paced work environment where change is happening every day   

Good sense of humor and team spirit

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$184,000 - $312,400

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
