The Opportunity
The Genentech Employee and Community Engagement team within the Corporate Communications team is seeking a Senior Director of Internal Communications to oversee the development and execution of an overarching enterprise-wide communications strategy that strengthens our business strategy, employee experience, unique culture and company values. This individual will be responsible for building a center of excellence in Internal Communication, leading and catalyzing a high-performing team of Communications Directors and contractors that will bring our Our Promise to life, execute communication plans, connect the dots with other projects and priorities, and elevate the employee experience in service of the organization’s mission.
The right individual will have a strategic, enterprise mindset and the ability to navigate a dynamic, complex organizational landscape, collaborate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization, drive cultural transformation and inspire others through exceptional communication.This individual will serve as a key advisor to the Genentech Executive Committee and United States Leadership Team, in consultation with the Senior Director of Employee and Community Engagement.
This role is based in South San Francisco and requires a presence at the Genentech Campus;

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise-wide employee communications strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals, mission, and values, enhances employee engagement, drives change management efforts, cultivates organizational culture and bolsters Genentech’s reputation.
Communication Content/Channel Strategy and Execution:
Oversee the editorial planning, creation and dissemination of impactful messaging and content to support our business strategy across multiple channels and formats including newsletters, intranet content, executive communications, and presentations, ensuring clarity and consistency of messaging
Develop and oversee an internal communication channel strategy, optimizing channel usage, reach and effectiveness.
Oversee the design and delivery of a comprehensive digital engagement channel strategy in partnership with Digital Channel and Technology teams; leverage innovative new mediums, format and channels to reach and engage intended audience
Lead and implement strategies and tactics that bring the company’s narrative to life through creative communications and engaging experiences (e.g., Town Hall, dynamic digital/video storytelling)
Partner with executive communications, external communications and media strategy colleagues on proactive corporate issues management to enhance and uphold Genentech’s reputation
Strategic Counsel: Build and establish a center of excellence for Internal Communications; Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing overarching communications counsel on effective communication strategies and developing messaging during key organizational changes or initiatives
Employee Engagement: Deliver compelling company-wide meetings and experiences that bring the business narrative and Our Promise to life through original content and innovative solutions
Vendor Management: Manage and oversee work of external agencies and partners supporting strategic communication efforts, including but not limited to: media, creative logistics and production partners to ensure resulting deliverables and collaterals are of the highest standards
Change communications: Lead internal communication efforts during periods of change, transition, or crisis, ensuring timely, transparent, and effective messaging across the enterprise.
Partnership and Collaboration: Serve as key partner in bridging enterprise-wide partner functions; Partner closely with corporate communication teams (Executive Communications, External Communications, Brand, etc), the internal communication network and a diverse range of stakeholders to craft strategic communication plans that resonate with employees and support organizational initiatives. Measurement and Evaluation: Establish KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness of internal communications initiatives and refine strategies and improve communication outcomes; Develop and implement programs and initiatives that encourage employee feedback, participation, and two-way communication, fostering a culture of openness and inclusivity
Trend Monitoring: Stay current on industry trends and best practices in latest communication and engagement, integrating learnings and experimenting with new programs elements, formats, channels and approaches to enhance employee engagement and communication effectiveness.
Team Leadership & Management: Lead, coach, and develop a small, high-performing internal communications team to drive measurable impact while supporting people development and growth; foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, smart risk-taking, enterprise-level thinking and continuous improvement; prioritize and flow work across the team to drive the most impact; create alignment and line of sight among External Communications and Executive Communications, PA&A, CMG, Genentech, Roche Group Communications and Roche U.S. affiliates on executive communications needs
Collective Leadership: Lead within the Corporate Communications function and within critical enterprise-wide & community forms relevant to the work; shape and partner on the direction of the ECE department strategy and capabilities building; Serve as a key communication and engagement advisor for the GNE organization and a steward of the culture. Model and amplify entrepreneurial and enterprise-level thinking. Evaluate and deploy financial resources to maximize business impact; adapt to changing needs
Comply with all laws, regulations, and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.
Participate in business travel, by air or car, when required for regular internal and external business meetings.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience or equivalent is required
A minimum of 15 years of previous communications or public relations experience
Previous internal communications, corporate communications or communications agency experience.
Experience in leading high-performance teams and developing innovative communication platforms.
Track record of managing external vendor partners and other internal colleagues in the execution of communications strategies, plans, programs and events
High proficiency in Google Suite and Apple Products
Impeccable ethics and integrity
People management experience required
Preferred Qualifications
8 years of experience gained in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industry
Experience with driving core business and corporate-level strategies and objectives, activities and communications, and execution is.
Marketing experience
Experience with collective leadership and stakeholder management, change communications and management, and the ability to approach work with adaptability and an enterprise mindset

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $193,000/yr to $358,400/yr . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
