What is the opportunity?
RBC is the leading lender of residential mortgages in Canada and RBC’s single largest business with over $440 Billion in assets and NIAT contribution of more than $425 Million dollars. This role has significant impact on the business profitability and has accountability for the end-to-end pricing strategy for mortgages, inclusive of builder packages, sales force authorities and rate exception process.
The mortgage market is intensely competitive and complex. Maintaining a strong market share position requires a commitment to innovation across technology, automation, client segments, product, acquisition, and retention strategies. The ability to stay ahead of competitors and industry pricing practices is a critical component of this role.
This role reports to the VP, Portfolio Management, Pricing & Insights and has regular contact and communication with Sales force colleagues and Treasury leaders. Strong analytical insights, excellent communication skills, and meaningful influencing impact are needed to excel. This role needs to build strong relationships, create meaningful financial benefits and nurture positive team dynamics to build new strategies, share insights and win as a team.
What will you do?
Profitability & Pricing Innovation
Lead Pricing transformation journey and advance customized pricing sophistication for Renewals and Acquisitions by collaborating with Borealis AI, and external vendors (i.e. Nomis).
Lead end-to-end pricing strategy and use of authorities. Identify and execute on price optimization opportunities for residential mortgages across all client segments and products – includes acquisition, and retention portfolios.
Recommend to the SVP HEF, Posted rate changes, RVR (relationship value rate) changes, client special offers and sales force discretionary pricing authorities.
Builder Programs
Partner with Treasury to develop hedging strategies to effectively manage interest rate risk associated with long rate caps.
Collaborate with the National Manager Builder and Construction on competitive builder packages and pricing strategies for recommendation to the VP & SVP HEF.
Competitive Analysis
Act as the subject matter expert on pricing available in the marketplace among major financial institutions, niche market players and mortgage brokers. Insights gained through consultations with sales leaders, competitive offers, competitor site scans, reading mortgage blogs, co-ordination of mystery shops, will be fed back into our models to ensure dynamic and relevant customer level pricing.
Provide strategic market competitive analysis on mortgage prices and practices.
Sales Support
Position sales communication to the field for each mortgage rate change
Provide input on sales force tools and communication as it relates to pricing and rate negotiation.
Customer Satisfaction
Centre of expertise and escalation point for handling and addressing client concerns received from the Ombudsman office regarding mortgage pricing.
Identify any gaps negatively impacting client satisfaction.
Leadership Excellence
With significant impacts through pricing and product management, lead through impact and influence, leveraging data drive insights as a foundation for dialogue.
Leverage the value in HEF and enterprise-wide teams to develop better solutions and achieve a cross enterprise mindset.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
10-15 years of experience in the financial service industry
Sales Experience (preferably selling mortgages)
Finance and or Treasury experience
Advanced financial & business acumen
Detailed knowledge of the mortgage sales process and sales force behaviour
Deep business analytical skills with at least basic knowledge of statistical modelling
Exceptional written and verbal communication
Strong negotiations skills
Leadership and people management experience
Nice to have:
University Degree, preferably MBA or extensive related work experience
