Director of Product Development – Job Description
Summary:
Join our dynamic team in Georgetown, ON, as the Director of Product Development, where your engineering expertise will drive innovation in the injection molding industry! We’re seeking a candidate with a University Degree or Diploma in Engineering and 5 to 10 years of relevant experience to lead our talented Product Development team specializing in hot runners, E-Multi systems, motion controls, and temperature controllers. Your strong background in engineering and manufacturing will be crucial in identifying development opportunities, evaluating competitive products, and determining product costs. If you have experience as an Innovation Leader or R&D Leader, along with knowledge of material rheology and the intricacies of injection and co-injection molding, we want to hear from you!
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support the development of new ideas and concept to create new or to improve existing products such as Hot-runners, E-Multi, Motion controls, and temperature controllers.Host and manage the Innovation Advisory Committee and prioritize product development schedules as approved by the committee.Support the development of new or improved methods or techniques for manufacturing.Manage the documentation of R&D stages, including design processes, test outcomes, and final recommendations.Planning, developing, and managing the product testing schedules.Review and approve product testing reports.Finalize Alpha and Beta testing of new products.Ensuring the final product meets necessary quality standards.Providing timely and relevant project updates to management (MBR meeting)Working with Master care and engineering, identify and resolve issues during the design, development, and testing phases.Reporting test results to internal and external stakeholders.Support IP department for handling patent documents and drawings, reviewing applications, and assessing existing patents.Recommending productivity and method improvements.Ensuring that products meet the requirements for CE certification.Ensuring compliance with ISO guidelines.Staying informed about the latest industry developments and trends.Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates Mold-Masters products in the market segments.Sales enablement – communicate the value proposition of the Company’s hot runner products to the sales team and develop the sales tools that support the selling process of Mold-Masters products.Product launch – plan the launch and release of new products and manage the cross-functional implementation of the plan.Support the execution of approved business cases with a targeted plan of action to develop and grow/expand sales in key market areas in support of corporate goals and objectives.Fully support the launch of these products and product improvements from a sales perspective and grow the product specific sales globally.Develop the marketing strategy and manage the marketing programs that drive demand for products.Provide general and technical input to the Mold-Masters Marketing department when required.Identify opportunities and challenges pertaining to sales and support in any marketplace where enhanced Mold Masters products can provide value and assist in driving the necessary organizational changes to capitalize on those opportunities.Communicate with global management and internal support staff, to keep them informed of all market developments.Working with the Sales Leadership, deploy internal resources regionally or globally based on value of opportunity and expected return.Provide coaching and mentoring to other sales engineering team members.Provide new products training to global staff and customers.Attend tradeshows and seminars and seek valuable information of market trends, product development trends, and new methods of manufacturing.Providing services and support to internal and external customers, suppliersThe Director of Product Development is required to able to manage a diversified team of engineers, developers, and both internal and external customers to conceptualize, design, and develop new products. They will accomplish goals by working with the senior leadership, Innovation Advisory Committee, and internal team.Decision Making
As the leader of development team, the Director of Product Development needs to make decisions on product selection based on data and market trends, and business strategy.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
The incumbent of this role must have a University Degree/Diploma in Engineering, with minimum of five to ten (10) years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. The individual should have an excellent record with Engineering, injection molding markets, and Manufacturing to help identify development opportunities, evaluate competitive products, and determine product costing. Previous experience as Innovation leader or R&D leader Process Engineer or would be an asset. Previous experience with material rheology as related to injection and or Co-Injection molding industry, mold making industry and / or hot runners’ systems, and motion controls is required.
A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The Director of Product Development must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as process documentation, blueprints, operating and instructions and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers, is a requirement.
