Senior Director, Public Safety
Overview The Senior Director of Public Safety (SDPS) is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, managing, and directing public safety operations and initiatives of Cherokee Nation. With a particular emphasis on managing and coordinating with the Directors of Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Service, Emergency Communications, and Fire Rescue, the SDPS is also responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for citizens, faculty, staff, visitors, and assets of the Cherokee Nation; ensuring the department plays a critical role in emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university; no substitutions. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT At least two (2) years of experience in a related field. COMPUTER SKILLS An individual should know Database software, Human Resource systems, Internet software, Inventory software, Order processing systems, Payroll systems, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications below: ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System ICS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents ICS-300: Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents ICS-400: Advanced ICS for Command and General Staff IS-700: National Incident Management System An Introduction IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to correct/adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather); risk of electrical shock; work with explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
