Senior Director, Research Oncology
Bayer is a biopharmaceutical company committed to applying our scientific leadership in Oncology to transform the lives of patients with cancer. We are growing rapidly with an active research and discovery pipeline. This role will play a strategic part in guiding research and drug discovery programs in the oncology pipeline. We are seeking an innovative and agile individual who brings significant expertise in drug discovery in cancer biology as well as a passion for professional development and peer coaching.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Director, Oncology Research are to:
Responsible for leading multiple drug discovery programs in Research and Early Development (RED) Oncology from target identification up through support of early clinical development;Contributing to and supporting research strategy in a specific area of scientific expertise pertaining to Cancer Biology to support the drug development strategy of RED Oncology;Responsible for matrixed management and strategic coaching of peers and other colleagues in RED Oncology to support multiple drug development programs;Supports the career development for and scientific strategic coaching of colleagues in Research Oncology;Collaborates with other R&D functions and supports cross team and cross site activities;Implements back translational strategies at the interface of drug discovery and clinical development;Contributes to key documentation and presentations for projects moving through internal review stage gates and regulatory submissions;Works across portfolio assets to drive an integrated strategy with indication, MOA, or modality focus;Maintains and extend a network with external partners from academia, contract research organizations and medical experts;Fosters creativity and motivation between scientists;Demonstrates, credibly embodies and roles models VACC leadership being a(n):Visionary that guides teams in defining the outcomes to deliver on the missionCatalyst that removes roadblocks to facilitate connections and collaborationArchitect that shapes a value creating system to unleash the passion and energy of our peopleCoach that helps teams learn and build the capabilities needed to create value for the customer and stakeholders
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required qualifications:
PhD. in Cancer Biology or related field;Demonstrated success across multiple phases of oncology drug discovery, with a significant track record of successful advancement of oncology therapeutics;Experience with the discovery of therapies for biomarker driven, selected patient populations;In-depth knowledge of cancer dependency databases, data science knowledge seen as advantageous;Substantial experience in design and execution of early stage research program(s) to identify and validate novel targets;Experience in strategic planning, project leadership, and laboratory and budget management in a matrixed organization;Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and within external collaborations, and a demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional audiences;Strong organizational and time-management skills and demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional collaborations including managing relationships with academic collaborators and CROs;Desire and capacity to participate in a dynamic and fast-paced research setting;Recognized scientific innovation and accomplishment evidenced by strong record of publication and conference presentations in cancer biology;Applies our VACC leadership behaviors;Demonstrates high self-awareness as well as system awareness;Pro-actively asks for and gives feedback;Demonstrates strategic thinking as well as good business and external trends insights;Focuses on outcomes: defines and deliver highest pipeline, team, talent and organizational impact outcomes;Collaborates with accountability: collaborates and holds each other accountable in and across teams;Co-creates for customers: is close to the customer and co-creates solutions for their needs;Acts, learns fast and evolves: works in 90-days cycles, applies learnings fast and continually develops;Is the best self and includes others: respects differences, embraces inclusion and shows up as the best self.
Preferred qualifications:
PhD in Cancer Biology or related field with a minimum of 8 years of industry experience.
