THE VALUE YOU'LL BRING:
The Senior Director, Strategic Sourcing is responsible for leading the development and implementation of progressive sourcing strategies that deliver cost efficiencies, supply assurance and quality in the procurement of both direct and indirect packaging materials. This role is expected to help identify and screen suppliers, develop strategic relationships, negotiate terms and conditions, and continuously drive improved supplier service levels through leadership and direction on a cross functional basis. This role will also ensure procurement strategies, processes, and program executions are fully integrated to support internal business plans and company objectives and will actively collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that our knowledge, relationships and investments are effectively and efficiently leveraged. This position will lead improvement activities, optimizing product sourcing management, cost management, and problem resolution. This role is responsible for contracting approximately $600MM in direct and indirect supply spend. This position works with 300+ vendors, 3 direct reports, and 3 indirect reports and manages and supports a significant portion of the category spend.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Develop program procurement, purchasing, contracts, negotiations and vendor selection, including frameworks for vendor evaluation, engagement and RFP ownership.
Establish extensive professional knowledge and experience of principles and techniques of negotiation to advise the business, direct and secure the best outcome for the company, maximize leverage control and steer complex and critical negotiations.
Develop, direct, and manage overall cost reduction targets and oversee execution of initiatives.
Responsible for conducting spend analysis, analyzing supply markets, identifying sourcing value levers, executing competitive RFIs/RFPs and leading supplier negotiations.
Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance, business adoption, technology enhancements.
Develop and maintain relationships with key business leaders to understand and support their vendor needs; work with managers and key partners to identify opportunities to leverage purchasing power.
Further reduce cost in the Smithfield supply chain by working with production schedulers, purchasing operation leads and plant personnel as needed.
Assure Smithfield leverages its buying power on cost of goods and ensure sustainable supply of quality materials. Review all direct material purchasing arrangements with vendors and team on an annual or semi-annual basis.
Continue developing better relations with our vendor community on the expectation of improving cost and/or service and consolidation of material SKU’s.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in business, food science, packaging, agri-business, economics, engineering, supply chain or related discipline and 12+ years’ relative experience in a multiple facility organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required.
Experience utilizing strategic sourcing methodology, required.
Technical experience utilizing linear performance pricing and should cost modeling preferred
Technical proficiency in developing and executing negotiation strategies
Experience negotiating supply agreements and sourcing terms and conditions
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
SAP experience is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of purchasing tool (Workday RFP) is a plus.
Ability to demonstrate proven results with contract reading, writing and negotiation.
Experience with “Strategic Sourcing Techniques” such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying methodology
Must understand production planning and materials requirement planning.
May travel up to 25% of the time to manufacturing plants and vendor locations.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
