THE POSITION: Senior Director, Total Rewards
The Senior Director of Total Rewards will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive compensation, benefits, and rewards program that aligns with The Shade Store’s goals and drives employee engagement, retention, and performance. This role will also play a critical part in ensuring our compensation and benefits plans prioritize internal equity, legal compliance, and employee satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building a total rewards function from the ground up, with a passion for execution and people-centered change management. Deep experience with sales teams and hourly populations is a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement a competitive rewards strategy to support The Shade Store’s business and cultural objectives and enhance team member engagement and performance across all departments.
Oversee the evolution and administration of compensation packages, including base pay structures and various short- and long-term incentive programs, to motivate a wide variety of employee populations, from manufacturing teams to sales teams.
Own the annual compensation review process, including recommending a budget based on competitive benchmarks. Execute planned and off-cycle salary adjustments, promotions, and bonuses.
Assume responsibility for the implementation of job architecture and career leveling across the company, creating a compensation philosophy that is aligned with company goals and pay banding that represents that philosophy.
Oversee payroll team and processes. Ensure that the HRIS is being used effectively for compensation-related objectives, and propose and implement process and systems improvements to enhance efficiency of service delivery.
Oversee employee benefits programs, including the negotiation, design, communication and administration of health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and other perks.
Partner with peers in HR, Legal, and Finance to ensure that compensation and benefits practices comply with legal requirements and meet operational and budget objectives. Manage compensation-related audits and ensure data integrity across HRIS and related systems.
Continuously measure and evaluate the effectiveness of total rewards plans, using market data and internal feedback to evolve and improve offerings.
Lead and develop a small team of HR compensation and benefit professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and a people-first approach.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration or related field; CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist), or other relevant certification strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits, with 4+ years in a leadership role
Proven experience developing and executing successful total rewards strategies and frameworks that have buy-in from company executives and measurable results.
Strong command of legal and regulatory requirements related to compensation and benefits programs.
Financial acumen with an operational mindset who facilitates the implementation of well-reasoned programs from top to bottom.
Hands-on leader who can manage multiple ongoing projects independently in a fast-paced environment; experience in founder-led companies is a plus.
Ability to work a hybrid schedule out of our Port Chester, NY or Pompano Beach, Florida offices; remote candidates will be considered if willing to travel regularly to corporate offices.
Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

The base salary range for this position is $170k-$200k, commensurate with experience.
