Senior Director of ASC Marketing – Orthopedics

At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.  The Senior Director of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) Marketing will lead the channel marketing efforts for Smith & Nephew’s orthopedic portfolio within US ambulatory surgery centers. This role involves developing and implementing innovative marketing strategies that accelerate the adoption of Smith & Nephew’s technologies within these centers with focus on improving presence, growing engagement with customers & key partners, collaborating with clinical and administration teams, enhancing patient acquisition & retention, improving service line offerings and working with our sales organization to drive customer conversion within this key channel. The Sr. Marketing Director will work closely with US Strategic Sales, Medical Education, Professional Affairs, Marketing Communications and Sales Training teams to build & implement commercial marketing strategies.

What will you be doing?

Strategic Marketing Planning:

Develop and implement a comprehensive channel marketing strategies to increase awareness and adoption of Smith and Nephew’s technologies within U.S. ambulatory surgical centers.Conduct in-depth research to identify patient demographics, customer needs & struggles, market trends and competitive landscape within this channel in order to advise commercial strategy. Proactively assess, clarify, and validate customer/prospective customer needs on an on-going basis.Establishes consultative, productive, and professional relationships with existing & new customers in this channel playing an influencer role with key collaborators and C-level executives within these surgical centers.Own the US ASC advisory board initiative, building a strong key opinion leader network within the US who can help steer our commercial strategy within this channel.

Value Proposition Development & Commercial Execution:

Develop a channel specific value proposition that allows Smith & Nephew to deliver the right value for customers working in ASCs. Ensure the messaging is consistent & aligned with our target customers mission and values in orthopedic care.Collaborate with the ASC management teams to better understand patient journey and find opportunities to improve patient experience pre-, during and post surgery. Develop a strong, recognizable brand identity that resonates with key stakeholders and patients within this segment.Work with strategic sales team to develop flexible business models and pricing structures to best address customer need within this segment, taking into account the various ASC management structures, payer mix, etc.Identify third party partnership support needs together with US Strategic sales team. Maintain marketing ownership of third-party relationships, develop tools and resources to support the field and validating new partnerships to meet the needs of our customer base & ensure customer conversion and satisfaction.Work with our sales leaders & sales training team to ensure effective sales force education, funnel management & incentives are in place to complete the channel strategy.Build and maintain strategic partnerships with these surgical centers - work in a collaborative cross functional team to offer strategies that deliver best in class education on Smith & Nephew technologies within this channel.Develop and manage marketing campaigns that target potential customers within this channel, leveraging SEO, social media, web and email marketing to drive engagement.Attend & support national/regional conferences as well as local events set up in collaboration with key ASCs.

Collaboration on Patient & Practice Marketing:

Collaborate with the surgeons & ASC management team to raise awareness on Smith & Nephew solutions and how it benefits their practice, working to improve patient referrals & outreachWork with the patient marketing team to develop educational content (videos, brochures, webinars) that advises potential patients about joint reconstruction procedures, recovery expectations, and the benefits of choosing an ASC. Implement patient testimonials and success stories to build trust and credibility within the community.Work in a cross functional team to organize community workshops, seminars, etc focused on joint health, providing information on prevention, treatment options, and the advantages of outpatient surgery. Partner with local organizations and wellness programs to promote joint health awareness and the ASC's services.

Performance Measurement and Reporting:

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of the various channel initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.Regularly report on ASC sales performance, use analytics tools to provide insights and recommendations to Smith & Nephew’s leadership on how best to accelerate growth in this channel.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead and mentor the marketing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and professional development.Ensure the team is equipped with the latest tools and resources to execute effective marketing strategies.

Center of Excellence Development & Execution:

Work with the medical education teams to develop centers of excellence for the company, that can provide best in class education, surgical & ASC leadership skills for Smith & Nephew’s customers working in this channel.Partner with orthopedic surgeons, ASC management teams, and clinical staff to ensure Smith & Nephew’s strategies and messages are accurately reflected within the medical education programs established for its portfolio.

What will you need to be successful?

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field; MBA or Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.Experience: 10+ years of experience in sales/marketing, with a focus on orthopedics, preferably with experience working with ambulatory surgical centers.Leadership Skills: Shown experience in leading and collaborating with high-performing teams. Experienced knowledge and application of strategic, tactical, and consultative selling principles in a sophisticated key/teaching institution environment. Negotiation, contracting & problem-solving skills.Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to interpret market data and adjust strategies optimally. Sophisticated Business acumen including financial acumen and analytical skills as well as refined written and verbal communication.Communication Skills: Strong analytical skills, including market strategy, customer requirements and success factors, and a value based selling process. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at presenting ideas to diverse audiences.Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with digital marketing tools and platforms, including SEO, SEM, social media, and content marketing.Creative Thinking: Innovative mindset with the ability to generate and implement new ideas for marketing campaigns.

Additional Skills:

Knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance issues, ambulatory surgical center management and operations.Ability to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment.Strong organizational, project management, sophisticated communication skills with the ability to create impactful presentations.
