Sodexo Technical Services is seeking a Senior Director of Construction Services to be based onsite in Youngstown, Ohio with up to two days a week remote depending on business needs. The Senior Director of Construction Services will lead, develop, and oversee both the HVAC Construction and Facilities Automation Construction Divisions. This role manages end-to-end operational activities including quoting, estimating, project management, a metal fabrication shop, and all field-related work.

The Sr. Director ensures that projects meet profitability, quality, compliance, and safety standards while driving innovation in building controls, automation technologies, and mechanical systems. As Sodexo Technical Services represents Schneider for Building Automation Systems (BAS), the Senior Director will ensure proper integration and management of all Schneider BAS solutions. This position also requires demonstrated experience managing and leading in a unionized environment, ensuring compliance with labor agreements and fostering positive labor relations. The incumbent will also foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and customer satisfaction.

Moderate travel may be required depending on project needs and routine site visits to client locations and the metal fabrication shop.

 

What You'll Do

Strategic Leadership & Planning

Develop and implement short-term and long-term business strategies for both HVAC and Facilities Automation Divisions.Align division goals with corporate objectives to drive sustainable growth and profitability.Stay abreast of market trends in HVAC technologies, Schneider BAS offerings, and general construction best practices.

Project Oversight & Delivery

Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from bidding and estimating through project closeout.Manage project scope, budgets, timelines, and resource allocation for optimal efficiency and on-time delivery.Champion best practices in project management to minimize risks and enhance client satisfaction.

Team Management & Development

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Project Managers, Estimators, and Foremen.Provide training, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to build a high-performing team.Promote a collaborative culture that emphasizes safety, quality, accountability, and customer service excellence.Cultivate productive relationships with union representatives and ensure alignment with collective bargaining agreements.

Financial & Operational Management

Prepare and manage division budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for multiple concurrent construction projects.Track operational costs, profit margins, and key financial indicators to ensure profitability and operational efficiency.Enforce compliance with corporate policies, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.

Metal Shop & Field Work Coordination

Oversee the metal fabrication shop operations, ensuring precision, quality, and timely output aligned with project requirements.Coordinate field installation and commissioning of HVAC and Schneider BAS systems, ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, and adherence to safety protocols.Work closely with union leaders to address workforce allocation, staffing needs, and labor-related challenges.

Client & Stakeholder Relationship Management

Serve as a primary point of contact for high-profile clients, collaborators, and strategic partners.Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, project updates, and swift issue resolution.Collaborate with business development teams to explore new opportunities and reinforce client retention strategies.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

Implement innovative processes and automation solutions (particularly Schneider BAS) that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance system performance.Stay informed on relevant codes, regulations, and technological advancements in facilities automation and HVAC.Enforce compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, leading by example in fostering a safe work culture.Ensure alignment with all labor agreements and legal requirements related to unionized environments. What You Bring

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Automation, or a related field highly preferred.10+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction management, preferably with HVAC and facilities automation (including BAS) projects.Proven track record managing large-scale, complex construction and controls integration projects.Experience working in a union environment with a strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements, labor relations, and union labor coordination.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in construction management and estimation software.In-depth knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, and facilities automation systems, especially Schneider BAS solutions and relevant industry codes.Familiarity with metal fabrication processes, field installation practices, and building automation networking protocols.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.Proven ability to build cohesive teams and effectively manage cross-functional collaboration.Strong analytical, decision-making, and strategic thinking abilities.

Certifications (Preferred):

Professional Engineering (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent industry certifications.OSHA 30-Hour Certification or recognized safety credentials.
