Senior Director of Shutdowns & Contractor Management, NA - Decatur, IL
ADM is seeking a Senior Director of Shutdowns & Contractor Management to help drive improvements in OEE related to scheduled losses and improvements in contractor labor productivity. The individual will achieve this through the development, deployment and delivery of best practices related to how ADM manages its shutdowns and contractor management processes. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is passionate about safety, comfortable delivering at pace, proven people leader, and effective communicator. He/she will also have experience in the end to end processes related to shutdowns & contractor management within a large industrial and/or manufacturing setting with multi-site responsibilities.
This position has multiple priorities across our sizeable asset footprint in different geographies and requires a high degree of coordination and execution among key internal and external stakeholders. The successful individual will define the shutdown and contractor management strategies, processes and plans and work with plant leadership at our focus sites to support its successful implementation.
Reporting to the VP of Plant Reliability, this role will be responsible for setting up the optimal central organization, building the right capabilities, defining our engagement strategies, and identifying the key roles needed at our focus sites to support successful execution of our strategies and plans. The role is expected to “move the needle” and drive significant and sustainable improvements in schedule losses, and contractor labor productivity while balancing cost, performance, and risk.
Primary Responsibilities
Shutdown and Outage Management Goals: Optimize the intervals between shutdown events considering the seasonality and cyclicality of our business. Improve asset reliability by ensuring the right scope is executed to high safety and work quality standards. Minimize the shutdown event duration, and effectively control cost.Help develop and implement the ADM Shutdown Management process and associated playbook.Help develop and maintain the annual shutdown calendar for our focus sites and make it visible to senior leadership.Set up the optimal corporate organization structure to effectively support our network of focus sites.Provide the tools and processes our sites require for an effective shutdown.Develop site and corporate skills & capabilities in the shutdown management process.Help our sites identify their main shutdown drivers, and pressure test their associated work scope and cost.Communicate a site’s readiness for executing their planned or unplanned shutdowns.Directs and deploys the central shutdown teams to sites the help with the planning, preparation, and execution phases for our major shutdowns.Drives the detailed planning process in our CMMS, including labor, resource assignments, material, and equipment.Help sites track shutdown performance during the execution phase.Facilitate postmortem reviews.Contractor Management Goals: Monitor contracted services for maintenance and project related activities used to support safe operations and asset performance goals. Planning, tracking, and ensuring high quality work from contractors. Supports the selection, hiring, legal compliance, project timelines, the reconciliation and control of contractor costs.
Help develop and implement the ADM Contractor Management process and associated playbook.Set up the optimal corporate organization structure to effectively support our network of focus sites.Develop corporate skills & capabilities in the contractor management process.Provide the tools and processes to sites required to effectively manage contractor work quality and cost.Ensure that contractors at sites follow the ADM work management and project management process.Drive significant improvements in contractor labor productivity by determining the levers to pull to address low productivity and then taking action.Track contractor spend and performance and provide recommendations during the contract renewal cycles.In partnership with Procurement and IT drive improvements and the maturation in integrated gate access control for our contractors at site.Assess the suitability various contract management software and the appropriate technology deployment strategies to meet objectives.Work with Legal and Procurement departments to ensure compliance to ADM legal requirements and contractor selection practices.Minimum Requirements:
Education:Bachelor’s degree in engineering.Length of experience:10+ years’ relevant experience in plant engineering, shutdown execution, maintenance, and reliability activities.2 years managing the end-to-end processes related to Shutdowns, Turnarounds and Outage (STO) Management with budgetary responsibility greater than $10M and leading outage teams greater than one hundred in size.4+ years’ experience in Contractor Management.Other:Knowledge and application of work management processes.Analytical skills and business acumen.Understanding of critical and near critical path concepts and how to operationalize them.Familiarity with SAP, Maximo and Primavera P6.Proven decision-making quality and drive for results. Must exhibit managerial courage.Problem-solving, communication and influencing skills- including the ability to lead change through others.Leadership skills to inspire, engage and motivate – including the ability to paint a vision and operationalize a strategy to achieve it.Travel:Travel to manufacturing facilities as needed (approximately 30%)Preferred Certifications:Project Management Professional (PMP)Certified Professional Contract Management (CPCM)Master’s degree in engineering or MBAExcited about this role but don’t meet every requirement listed?
