POWER Engineers, Inc. seeks a Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer in our Edmonton, Alberta, office.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesDevelop new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation
Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs
Prepare and check design deliverables, including plan and profile drawings, material selection, and construction specifications
Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints
Manage and develop project estimates, schedules, bids, and engineering support
Compilation of design packages for construction
Perform quality reviews of project deliverables
Network with clients and maintain client relationships
Some travel will be required
Required Education/ExperienceA Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a university accredited by Engineers Canada; additional engineering backgrounds will be considered
Eight (8) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
Experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines
Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
Ability to work in design teams and is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks and take the initiative to learn the position
The ability to lead and direct a team of Engineers, Designers, and Drafters
Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Ability to travel to the USA on occasion for training or client meetings
Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Must be able to pass a client's background check along with client drug and alcohol screening processes as required
Desired Education/ExperienceTen (10) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
Prior utility design experience or distribution line work in the Alberta market is highly preferred
Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on-the-job training
Exposure to non-linear powerline design software such as PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, etc.
The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills in the English language to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Managerial and leadership experience is an asset
