Senior Editor/Executive Editor, Putnam (Hybrid)

Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, seeks a Senior or Executive Editor to join the team. This role will report to the VP, Editor in Chief and will acquire and edit fiction with a focus on suspense, crime, and thriller fiction.
For more than two decades, Putnam has led the publishing industry with more hardcover New York Times bestsellers than any other imprint. It is home to distinguished fiction and non-fiction authors including: Chloe Benjamin, Tom Clancy, Robert Crais, Annabel Monaghan, Delia Owens, Hoda Kotb, Eve Rodsky, Kiley Reid, Steven Rowley, Paige Toon and Sarah Winman. Specific responsibilities include:
• Acquires, edits, and oversees the publication of 8-10 books per year.
• Communicates with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition through publication.
• Develops strong working relationships with Marketing, Publicity, Design, Managing Editorial, Production, and other essential in-house departments.
• Follows cultural and industry trends to aids in evaluating potential projects and identifies new opportunities.
• Effectively represents own list as well as the imprint to media, booksellers, foreign publishers, literary organizations, and other out-of-house contacts beyond authors and agents.

• Minimum 5 years of book editorial experience to be considered for Senior Editor; Minimum 7 years of book editorial experience to be considered for Executive Editor
• Must have a solid track record of acquiring and shaping commercially successful books
• Strong editorial and negotiating skills
• Interpersonal skills and organizational skills
• Knowledge of marketplace trends
This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
The salary range for the Senior Editor level is $81,500-$85,000, and $100,000-$130,000 for Executive Editor. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
