Job Summary
The position is responsible for the Safety, Health and Environmental policies, procedures and operations at the manufacturing plants. The Senior EH&S Specialist is also responsible for training systems across all plant functional areas. Ensures the plant is in full compliance with the corporate, city, county, state and federal government Safety, Health, and Environmental laws and regulations.
Essential Functions
Inspects facilities, machinery, equipment, and personnel practices to identify potential safety and health concerns and hazards. Identifies training gaps, and develops training materials/programs designed to address the concern. Trains employees and management in safe practices including: Hazard Communications, blood borne pathogens, respirator use, lock-out/tag-out, forklift operation, hot work, confined space, fire protection, site evacuation, contractor safety and safe lifting. Serves as a subject matter expert at other plants to help identify potential problems; works with plant management to develop solutions. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes and rules. Ensures that all E, H, S reporting is completed timely and accurately. This includes Avient-required, government, agency and other reporting. Ensure that programs exist and are followed for all necessary employee monitoring and testing requirements are performed appropriately. Develops and maintains safety systems, policies, and procedures for the site. Conducts accident investigation and provides recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. Chairs assigned committees; i.e. Safety Committee, Site Emergency Response Team, Recycle Team. Acts as Company representative in dealing with government agencies on safety, health and environmental matters affecting the site. Responsible for all safety-related permit programs. Responsible for maintaining and improving site security programs. Responsible for ensuring that all waste streams are properly classified and handled. Ensures that E, H, S standards are met by all onsite contract services. Provides information to top management on accidents, causes, and costs and recommends long-range accident reduction and cost containment objectives. Coordinates activities with local fire departments and other government/civic functions on inspection of facilities. Ensure safe operation, modification and installation of equipment in all buildings. Other duties as assigned.Education and Experience
Bachelor’s – EH&S or equivalent experience 5-7 years of prior EH&S experience Software Skills; Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, SAP While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs. Specific vision abilities may be required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to moderate. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting quantitative and qualitative productivity standards.
