The Senior Electrical Engineer, Lake Charles Refinery provides leadership, technical expertise, and business perspective in all areas related to the refinery’s electrical systems. This role is responsible for preventative maintenance programs, coordination of improvement and new projects, and cost/budget management.
 
Responsibilities May Include:

Collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement and reliability of electrical components, equipment, and systems. Providing technical expertise for troubleshooting of equipment, including power distribution systems, motor controls, switch gear, UPS systems, and substations. Providing technical support for electrical systems design, specification, installation, testing, and start-up. Designing electrical system upgrades and expansions, developing construction scopes, drawing preparation, construction support, and start-up supervision. Providing maintenance support and reliability of existing electrical equipment. Assisting with maintenance planning and execution of major equipment repairs and unit turnarounds. Participating in refining electrical reliability network and industry technical societies. Coordinating and supervising work of contractors, including liaison with vendors. Leading and participating in root cause failure analyses. Identifying and developing scope and justification for electrical infrastructure improvement projects. Supporting refinery electrical operations outside of normal business hours as needed. Interfacing with external power agencies.

 
Required Qualifications:

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country without restrictions Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering  5 or more years of industrial electrical experience, including power distributions systems 3 or more years of experience in refining, petrochemical or a related industry Previous experience with the installation and maintenance of Protection Relays, VFD’s, Transformers, Breakers, and /or Motors Willing and able to respond to off-hour callouts on an as needed basis to support refinery operating requirements Willing and able, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven) Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Preferred Qualifications:

10 or more years of industrial electrical experience, including power distributions systems Demonstrated knowledge of industrial safe work practices and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, ISA, and API) Previous experience with plant start-ups and troubleshooting of complex electrical control and operational problems Strong safety focus with demonstrated knowledge of code requirements, including OSHA and Process Safety Management Experience or Familiarity with SEL and Multilin Relays Experience or Familiarity with ETAP

 

The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
