The Role

HDR is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with Medium Voltage (MV) experience to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) team in Sydney. This position will support our Technical Director in leading and overseeing the design of medium voltage designs specific to our pipeline of data centre projects.

This is a senior role whereby you will have the opportunity to carry out detailed design whilst assuming the role of design leader where required, coordinating with other engineering disciplines.

In the role of Senior Electrical Engineer, we’ll count on you to:

Assist Group Leader with monitoring engineering/CAD resource requirement for each project within your control. Detailed design (MV systems) Lead and deliver the concept and detailed design of MV substation primary systemsPrimary systems design - produce SLDs, HV substation layouts, equipment/materials lists, clearance checks, and short circuit force calculationsCarry out engineering concept design to detailed design, tender and contract on site supervision, to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved. Liaise with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard. Provide positive contribution to design/project meetings. Maintain regular ‘in house’ design reviews and checks.Monitor and control project progress, design variations and project financial budgets.Monitor contract staff or third-party appointments.Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business. Pursue new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.Assist Group Leader with identifying and implementing your personal training/CPD requirements.Participate in Site Works as requiredDevelop and maintain good relations with the various industry networks, clients, government agencies, sub-consultants and construction contractors relevant to the MEP team’s activities.Assist and co-ordinate design activities, processes and other technical standards within the MEP and CSA services.Undertake technical reviews of the project at appropriate stages to ensure that the project approach and deliverables are achieved.Perform other duties as required.

Preferred Experience Qualifications

Strong knowledge of MV systems and relevant Australian Standards.Consulting experience is a must.Mission Critical Design / Data Centre Design Experience is an added advantageFamiliar with electrical proprietary software such as ETAP, Vipcodia, Power Cad etc is an added advantage.Successful project management experience in the MEP sector is an added advantage.Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasisA minimum of 10 years experience  in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems);Professional Engineer (PE) license Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
