Senior Embedded Developer

What you'll do:

The Senior Embedded Developer is primarily responsible for designing, writing, and testing C, and embedded RTOS firmware systems, as well as contributing to the design and testing of embedded hardware. In this role you will this role involves collaborating with other embedded developers, engineers, and internal technical teams in determining the architecture and constraints of the project. The focus of this position is to design and implement firmware of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment.

How you'll make an impact

Develop an in-depth understanding of the Geotab IoT devices (such as Go Device,  GOAnywhere, extensible IOX  product, asset trackers) firmware and how various modules work.

Perform firmware development, including architectural input, in the required area of expertise (modem, GPS, vehicle data, security, etc) using C and other standards required by the RTOS and as per Geotab’s development standards.

Write unit tests and perform integration and system-level testing in both real and simulated vehicles, to demonstrate that new features meet design requirements.

Conduct comprehensive testing and code reviews to ensure that industry coding standards are followed.

Debug firmware issues and identify areas for code improvements.

Keep up-to-date documentation for all areas of responsibility.

Occasional international travel required.  What you'll bring to the role

Post-secondary Degree/Diploma with specialization in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related Degree/Diploma.

5 - 8+ years of experience with embedded firmware and hardware (system) development.

Experience with Wireless (cellular, BT, etc) products.

Experience building Computer applications and mobile development.

Test Automation experience.

Microcontroller Design and utilization.

Firmware build-chains and build systems.

CI/CD methods for properly maintaining and evolving a product pre-market and while in-market.

Understanding of underlying electronics to the point where it influences firmware development and debugging.

Familiar with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns common to embedded (resource-constrained) systems development and experience in high level languages like C# or python.

Experience and knowledge for reading schematics and data sheets for components.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate and document complex technical systems and decisions.

Exposure and/or experience with RTOS and Linux is an asset.

GCP, BigQuery, SQL experience is an asset.
