Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Embryologist - **Obs/Gyn-IVF**.

In this role, the successful candidate will work under the general direction of laboratory leadership. This position performs basic and advanced clinical laboratory techniques independently in the embryology laboratory. Additionally, this position interacts directly with physicians and demonstrates ability to use own judgement in making decisions regarding laboratory procedures. Participates in the day-to-day oversight and training of Embryologists Levels I and II. Detail oriented data entry and functionality with laboratory software is required. Expected to perform at high level showing skilled critical thinking and reliable judgement skills in high pressure situations. This position includes holiday and weekend rotations. Team oriented workflow. Also interfaces with the research and ancillary components of the program.

Job Responsibilities:

Study and review Embryology Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and be familiar with quality control, quality assurance, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.Study and comply with OSHA requirements and HIPAA regulations and utilize universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens.Demonstrate sufficient competency to perform basic and advanced ART procedures and quality control independently:laboratory cleaning and monitoringreceipt and testing of media and suppliespreparation and labeling of media and tissue culture materials and dishesequipment maintenance and quality controlsperm preparation for ARTsperm cryopreservation (if applicable) and thawoocyte retrieval and preparation for culture and inseminationconventional IVF (in vitro fertilization) inseminationfertilization assessmentembryo handling, culture, and gradingembryo vitrification and warminglaser assisted hatching handling of liquid nitrogen, cryopreserved specimens and maintenance and monitoring of cryo-storage tanksfresh specimen discardparticipation in cryopreserved specimen discard with laboratory leadership as necessaryreceipt and release of cryopreserved specimens as necessaryrembryo transfer oocyte vitrificationIntra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)participate fully in laboratory efforts to research, analyze and improve the quality of laboratory servicesDevelop proficiency in additional advanced ART procedures under the supervision of laboratory leadership:alarm responseautologous and donor egg warming embryo biopsytubing of biopsy samplesinterpretation of PGT reportsMaintain records of training in each procedure.Maintain and ensure chain of custody for all specimens in the laboratory.Record and report laboratory monitoring, quality control, and patient results in the electronic medical record system and/or the appropriate written format, spreadsheets, databases, or laboratory software.Data entry to SART and NASS if necessary.Interact with and educate visitors and new personnel.Consult directly with the laboratory and physician team regarding the status and appropriateness of clinical sperm, egg and embryo specimens and demonstrate knowledgeability to discuss embryologic or laboratory issues.Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.Demonstrate ability and willingness to adapt to new technologies and procedures.Participate in research projects.Responsible to work independently and as the laboratory lead during weekends and in response to alarms.Provide day-to-day oversight, training and mentoring of less experienced staff in the embryology laboratory in relation to basic and advanced procedures and techniques and the regulatory and administrative requirements of the laboratory, Assist in preparation for and during inspections of the laboratory.Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Position Responsibilities: Provide a high level of patient care and service.  Attend practice and department meetings.  Learn and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, society meetings, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks.  Document all continuing education activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, clinical or reproductive laboratory science from an accredited institution.
Experience: 3+ years in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic and advanced embryology techniques with experience in in-vitro fertilization.
Other: Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and show reliable and independent judgement skills. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs in weight for stocking and inventory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Embryology Laboratory Scientist (AAB) certification. A master's degree or equivalent in a biological, reproductive laboratory science or related science.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $89,999.99 - $134,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
