The Senior Engineer, Capital Engineering is accountable for the design, interpretation, and authentication of engineering designs, standards and specifications prepared by themselves or other engineering personnel working under their direct supervision. This includes ensuring all financial, engineering, construction, maintenance, and repair activities are planned, designed, engineered, constructed, and completed within all applicable codes, standards, procedures, and work practices. The Senior Engineer will ensure all health & safety, environmental, operational, reliability, and customer requirements are identified, addressed, implemented, and followed in the performance of their duties. This includes interacting and setting expectations with customers that may be affected by EPCOR’s work. The Senior Engineer, Capital Engineering will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics and establishing, monitoring, measuring and reporting on performance metrics related to Capital Engineering projects. This includes analyzing and identifying issues impacting optimal performance and achieving the required outcomes with time spans (longest target completion time) of up to 12 – 36 months. The Senior Engineer, Capital Engineering is accountable to the Manager, Capital Engineering and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the Manager, Capital Engineering. What You’d be Responsible For Providing input to the Distribution Engineering Business Plan, ensure an appropriate understanding of EDTI’s Capital Plan throughout Distribution and ensure on-going effective positioning and appropriate relationships between other positions in Distribution and Transmission and in the rest of EUI.Developing and implementing stratum appropriate (12-36 month) deliverables within the context of the Distribution Engineering Business Plan. Authenticating engineering designs, standards and specifications prepared by the individual or under the direct supervision of that individual. This includes implementing broader modifications and new approaches to designs, procedures, processes, specifications, and standards with continuous improvement in mind. Procurement of materials, work order issuance and approval. Also accountable for creating non-standard design philosophies and/or unique engineering solutions for highly complex projects along with championing necessary MOC initiatives.Mentoring and coaching designers and identifying development needs for employees. Overseeing and supervising the work of designers and providing feedback to staff and Manager. Resolving difficulties with design, ensuring designers have the technical skills required to perform their work functions, developing and delivering engineering training to staff in areas of deficiency. Guide designers in performing stakeholder level review of engineering designs with an emphasis on working with operations and field employees to ensure constructability and electrical system compatibility requirements.Assessing and/or establishing distribution engineering utility best practices in engineering design, work methods, materials, equipment, tools and/or instruments to move distribution engineering further towards an industry leading position in work practices and a safety focused culture.Identifying and implementing new approaches to designs, recognizing and encouraging continuous improvement throughout the design team.Developing, implementing and reviewing engineering processes and practices to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory and code requirements and ensuring mitigation of risks.Is a subject matter expert in specific distribution engineering fields of expertise (i.e. underground system design, aerial system design) and provides support in making technical and technological designs related to civil and/or electrical construction and design of utility infrastructure and conducts training in that area of expertise.Establishing and managing more senior collaborative relationships with internal contacts across departments and identifying, establishing and managing collaborative relationships with more senior level external contacts. Accountable for own work assignments across multiple departments or supervision to members of one or multiple work teams of technical and/or professional employees conducting complex work within a discipline or department. Setting project priorities and engineering execution plans, including work package issuance dates, employee work assignments and managing schedule compliance to ensure on time delivery of work packages and managing work flow across teams through proactive and positive collaboration. Planning and managing unprecedented projects and/or dealing with highly complex customer needs.Reviewing latest Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Alberta Electrical Utility Code, Canadian Electrical Code and ensuring compliance for technical approval of Engineered Drawings and providing training to staff where applicable.Establishing, monitoring, measuring and reporting performance metrics related to engineering designs and work packages. Analyzing and identifying issues impacting optimal performance and establishing initiatives for continuous improvement around design, quality and efficiency. What’s required to be successful Degree in Engineering or a Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary instituteRegistered or eligible to be registered with APEGAWith a Degree in Engineering we require: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), With a Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering we require:Professional Licensee (Eng.) with the ability to review, approve and stamp Electrical Distribution System designs and/or Civil Utility Construction designs.Engineer with advanced related technical expertise/education and comprehensive years of professional/supervisory experience (typically 8+ years) in electrical distribution systems, including design, construction and engineering experience in Aerial and Underground Distribution systems. In-depth knowledge of Aerial and Underground Distribution system design and construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques.Alberta Electric Utility Code and CSA Standard requirements.Aerial and Underground Distribution system engineering standards, material specifications and engineered guidelines.Strong diagnostic skills required with the ability to manage complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions where there are not clear processes or parameters in place. Designing complex distribution utility construction projects with increasing responsibility. Planning and executing new initiatives and implementing new processes. The design and construction of on-site distribution engineering projects.Ability to communicate technical or complex issues in a clear and succinct way required. Demonstrated ability to:Work effectively as part of a larger team within a dynamic environment.Develop, nurture and manage external and internal relationships.Understand and manage complex budgets relative to this area of responsibility.Execute the annual capital plan for Distribution.Strong leadership and facilitation skills required to advise and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Strong ability to influence people and decision-making skillsHigh level of competency with computer software.
