The Opportunity
This position works out of our Minnetonka, MN location in the Cardiac Rhythm Management division.
As a global leader in Cardiac Rhythm Technologies, we focus on innovative technologies that can improve the way doctors treat people with heart arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats.
Senior Engineer, Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence role will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing manufacturing and business process improvements that increase capacity, reduce lead-time, reduce the work-in-process, and improve process flow and efficiency. These actions will occur across multiple facets of organization including: manufacturing, design, supplier development, documentation, and Abbott suppliers. Projects will incorporate lean manufacturing, theory of constraints, quick response manufacturing, Just-In-Time, Methods- Time Measurement, or a variety of other systems improvement philosophies. The employee will be required to create strong relationships with team members internal and external to Abbott to ensure project success.
What You’ll Work On
Lead or contribute to projects which include new production equipment, process improvements and cost reductions while supporting new product introductions. Additional responsibilities include: Provide technical mentorship to engineers and technicians. Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput through the use of Lean manufacturing concepts. Work with Product Development to ensure Design for Manufacturability.
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
Analyzes, creates and implements manufacturing and/or business process improvements that increase capacity, reduce lead-time, reduce work in process and improve the quality, cost and delivery performance of Abbott.
Completes capacity analyses internally and/or at suppliers for headcount, equipment and space requirements using simulation software or other effective tools.
Identifies opportunities and drives incorporation of appropriate Lean tool usage such as 5S, time study, line balancing, standard work, material flow and value stream mapping, process mapping and Kaizen event into the daily functions of continuous improvement.
Makes recommendations to teams, which drive higher yielding, lower cost, more manufacturable products. May use financial analyses tool and recommend alternative courses of action.
Support all Divisional initiatives as identified by divisional management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelors Degree Related field OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Masters Degree Preferred
Minimum 6 years related work experience with a strong understanding of specified functional area
Technical/Business Knowledge-Wide application of technical principles, practices, and procedures.
Strong understanding of business unit function and cross group dependencies/relationships.
Cognitive Skills- Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Has a sound knowledge of various technical alternatives and their impact.

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 – $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
