National Grid is a hiring a Senior Engineer for our Gas Innovation Department in Melville, NY. This is a hybrid position (not remote), with 3 days in the office weekly.

Job Purpose
This position will support National Grid’s Research, Development (R&D) program which is designed to improve the gas business through innovation.
Key focus areas of this program include customer & worker safety, environmental matters & carbon emission reduction, operational efficiencies, network integrity & reliability, and future of heat innovation.
Key Accountabilities
Manage innovation projects as part of the Millennium & Traditional R&D program, working with internal and external stakeholders to drive projects to closure. Identify innovative technologies which can bring value to the gas business & support the development of these opportunities into innovation projects. Develop and promote business cases for new technologies & solutions to company stakeholders Support business groups integrating new solutions into business as usual (BAU) state Support various consortium R&D efforts (NYSEARCH, OTD, UTD, etc.), and Joint Industry Projects (JIP) as technical subject matter expert (SME) Support the preparation of Regulatory Filings and Reports in accordance with Company needs, including financials/budgets to support such efforts Attend & represent the Company at select conferences as required to enhance our understanding of key R&D focus areas Perform specialist engineering/design work to support the development & deployment of new technologies including process safety reviews. Assist in preparation of group communications internally & externally (Group newsletters, industry group presentations, etc.)
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering Program Meet the qualifications of a Senior level position per the engineering progression guidelines. (6 years engineering equivalent experience or 4 years with a PE license). Gas utility or energy industry experience required Experience in Research & Development and pilot testing / field deployment strategies of new technologies a plus Knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues affecting the industry Understanding of industry codes & standards & applicable design standards Excellent administrative & organizational skills Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (both internal & external) Strong skills in strategic thinking, problem solving, communication, project management, computer and analytical skills Exhibits high personal standards for commitment to safety, integrity and compliance Exhibits intellectual curiosity & eagerness to seek out and learn about new technologies Self-Starter with the ability to work independently with little direction

Downstate NY Salary:$126,000 - $148,000 a year
