About this opportunity:
Cenovus is seeking a Senior Engineer for Refining Growth Capital LP Evaluation based in our Dublin, OH office (with consideration for the individuals to be located at the Lima or Toledo site.) Reporting to the Director of Planning Tools & Mid/Long-Term Planning, this position will require strong leadership through influence, collaborating with multi-functional teams across various disciplines. The primary focus will be on refining growth capital, using LP modeling and evaluation to support key strategic and operational initiatives within the Downstream Capital Management process.
This role is integral to providing a transparent, credible, and disciplined assessment of projects across the downstream portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and effective portfolio-level decision-making. By partnering with Downstream Capital Management, asset teams, project leaders, commercial units, and corporate stakeholders, this individual will play a vital role in empowering the team to drive value and achieve world-class capital efficiency across both annual and long-range planning cycles.

What you’ll do:
Provide sophisticated LP model run evaluations and assessments of downstream growth capital opportunities / projects and perform analysis in collaboration with decision analysis engineers, site business leads, projects planning & delivery teams, Downstream Technical Services, and North American Manufacturing Performance Improvement TeamsConduct thorough evaluations of potential capital growth investments, including market analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessment.Lead due diligence processes for new investment opportunities, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze relevant data.Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations for senior management and stakeholders.Who you are:
Legally authorized to work in the US12+ years’ experience in Refining, Downstream Supply or Production business environment.Bachelor’s degree in engineeringExperience with planning tools such as ASPEN PIMS, AVEVA Spiral, PETRO, etc.Understanding of refinery unit processesPreferred:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineeringExperience considering refinery and supply constraints to determine economic incentives and develop solutions.Previous work experience in Project Management, Process Engineering, Economics, Scheduling, or Supply/tradingBroad commercial experience both within a refinery and marketing environmentUnderstanding of crude supply logistics and trading, product marketing and logistics, and deep understanding of refinery economics.Expertise in both running and interpreting results from an LP. Ability to understand the commercial complexity of a refinery network.Strong interpersonal and communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office software package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).Experience with AVEVA Spiral softwareAble to analyze data and use, to positively influence business decisionsUnderstanding of refining economics, with preference for experience running LP software and analyzing output reports.Proficiency in economic modeling techniques and methodologiesAbility to work in ambiguous situations, remain flexible, and to successfully adapt to a variety of working environments.Experience in a fast-paced work environment with dynamically shifting priorities and deadlines.What we offer:
