Senior Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Hybrid) 10/15/2024

Locations: Westwood, Massachusetts; Berlin, Connecticut; Hartford, Connecticut; Manchester, New Hampshire

Performs as project leader and/or carries out assignments requiring mastery of subject matter, with extensive experience associated with planning transmission lines and substation facilities in an electric power system. Exhibits strong technical skills on the design of the electric power system. Represents the company on regional and national transmission committees regarding transmission planning matters, at the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL), North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), New England Power Coordination Council (NPCC), Independent System Operators of New England (ISO-NE), and Regional Transmission Organizations.

This is a hybrid role.  The first three months are fulltime in the office.

Essential Functions: 

Develop and maintain the system models for transmission studies including collection, review and/or modification of a variety of electric system parameters: equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, as well as system topologyConducts adequacy assessments and develop options to meet delivery objectives with latitude for independent action and decision making.  Typical reliability studies include analyses of power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients. Identifies key technical issues and develops solutionsResponsible to understand, interpret and apply industry and corporate transmission planning standards and the regulations of Federal, State and Local authoritiesRepresents the department and the company on various industry related committeesParticipates with other utilities and the planning staff of the Independent System Operator (ISO) in the preparation of regional transmission expansion studiesEmploys teamwork with engineers in System Planning, Transmission Asset Strategy, and engineers and operating personnel elsewhere in Electric Operations in performing analyses and providing technical support in planning and operational environmentsPlans, develops and collaborates in the implementation and management of the life cycle plan for transmission assetsCommunicates clearly and effectively verbally and in writing the results of analyses and action planContributes to the development of the budget for the Electric Operations through cost-effective programs and projects to meet customer and system needsTrains junior staff in technical analyses and procedures

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Knowledge with power system transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, PSCAD, or other similar analysis softwareKnowledge of programming language such as PythonKnowledge of new technologies including but not limited to photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and batteryKnowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supply systemKnowledge of National, State and other planning standards and reliability criteriaGood written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation.Excellent team skillsEffective interpersonal skills, ability to develop strategic partnershipsAbility to achieve desired results by setting high standards for self and others, and accepts responsibility for outcomesSkill in working cross functionally

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in EngineeringAdvanced degree preferred

Experience:       

Five plus years’ of directly related experience

Working Conditions:

Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program.  The annual salary range for this position is $122,000- $140,000 plus incentive.  Salary is commensurate with your experience.  Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
