Job Description

Basic Functions

Reporting to the Operations Engineering Infrastructure Manager, this position will develop and manage complex capital projects related to the manufacturing of PET containers across multiple North American sites. This role will serve as a subject matter expert for plant utility and mechanical infrastructure systems. 

Essential Functions

Ensure that corporate safety and environmental requirements are incorporated into project scopes and budgets.Perform infrastructure and Utility assessments of Amcor facilities, focusing on plant efficiency, reliability and preventive maintenance planning. Support productivity and cost reduction projects within manufacturing locations.Create Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) for all plant utilities.Create, update, and maintain Plant Utility Load Sheets.Review plant layout and equipment against project requirements.  Develop and manage plans for upgrades and expansion requirements.Create bills of materials for new capital projects and provide justification and support for the capital appropriation process.Develop project requirements, comprehensive bid packages and bid analysis.Communicate and resolve technical, timing, and budgetary issues related to projects as they arise.  Publish weekly project status reports outlining projects status and issues.Manage various mechanical and equipment installations including air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, piping, pumping, HVAC, dehumidification, and process cooling systems.Create, present, and refine feasibility studies, with input from Regional Directors, Plant Managers and Plant resources, into a mutually acceptable action implementation plan, which meets cost and timing criteria.Analyze and evaluate the performance and cost of new, proposed or existing equipment.  Includes evaluation of equipment, vendors, and contractors.Create and maintain division level technical specifications, standards, and documentation for the Operations Engineering department.Assist plants in creating and updating division level preventative maintenance standards.Support water system treatment program activities, including developing best practices for proper operation and maintenance.Support and help drive resolution to water system treatment issues impacting plant operations.Communicate with plants on a regular basis to understand long term project performance.  Recommend subsystem optimization and support resolution of plant issues.Review and comment on plant CEAV requests to ensure accuracy and compliance to standards.Support plant requests for technical support.Domestic travel required 25% to 50%.

Other Related  Functions

Serve as the SME for water treatment programAttend various engineering meetings to develop and implement ideas related to improvement of production processes.Provide solutions for optimizing existing systems to meet changes in demand and loading.Ensure all local, state, and federal codes are adhered to and approvals are obtained as required for installations.Stay current with new technologies and developments related to utilities and infrastructure engineering.Develop standard operating procedures and preventative maintenance programs related to utility systems.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, Masters preferred.Strong interpersonal skills to communicate technical information and to complete project assignments.Strong management, communication, and people skills required to influence and manage multiple resources, most of which do not report to the Senior Engineer.Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills.Able to work independently with minimal supervision.Experience in evaluating on-site manufacturing opportunities and managing on-site projects from concept to completion.Minimum of ten years professional engineering experience, preferably in the plastics packaging industry, including seven years of project management experience.  Expert knowledge of plant utility and infrastructure equipment. Proven experience managing multiple resources and complex projects.Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365, and SCADA systems.
