You will:
Apply analytical and experimental skills to design, optimize, and test next generation nonconventional machining processes, including, ECM, EDM, and Chem Milling for shaping, machining, and finishing metals, ceramics, and composite materials.Identify customer requirements, define manufacturing process specifications, and build hardware and software system prototypes to meet the customer requirements.Follow a manufacturing readiness level scorecard to drive the manufacturing process development from benchtop testing through factory pilot implementation.Collaborate with the digital technology teams to integrate product design, manufacturing, and inspection data to optimize downstream process capabilities.Develop tools and methods to enhance nonconventional machining process capabilities, considering cost, schedule, and quality trade-offs.Help develop diagnostics and monitoring strategies to enhance nonconventional machining process robustness.Develop technology strategy and implement actionable multi-generational technology plans for manufacturing.Formulate projects scope and plans and work with leadership and customers to track progress toward project deliverables.Effectively document and communicate results to customers and leadership by preparing written reports and delivering oral presentations.QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 3 years of experience in power electronics and embedded controls technologies. Proficiency in hardware description languages such as VHDL/Verilog, and FPGA design tools.Proficiency in model-based embedded system design. MS degree in Engineering, Physics, or related fields with 10 or more years of relevant industrial research experience. BS degree will be considered with significant R&D industry experience.Experience in wet chemical process R&D and familiarity with two or more nonconventional machining processes, including ECM, EDM, and Chem Milling, with ability to perform both analytical and experimental research work.Familiarity with manufacturing system integration, including automation and in-situ monitoring.Experience in transferring manufacturing processes from lab to factory and familiarity with manufacturing technology scale-up and industrialization.Strong communication and influencing skills with customers, leadership, and project teams.Innovation, self-motivation, and ability to collaborate across organizations to achieve results.Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, or related fields with 8 or more years of relevant industrial research experience.Experience with short potential pulse, sub 1 millisecond, electrochemical oxidation experimentation.Familiarity with a range of manufacturing processes and operations outside of nonconventional machining, e.g., turning, milling, laser processes, welding, inspection.A working knowledge in the development of multi-axis CNC machining and robotics.Experience in software development using languages, such as C#, C++, Python, LabVIEW, and/or MATLAB.Knowledge of solid modeling and exposure to one or more commercial CAD/CAM systems, e.g., NX, Solidworks.Exposure to emerging manufacturing trends, such as digital thread and additive manufacturing technologies.Experience in writing external proposals and executing government-funded programs.A record of publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.The base pay range for this position is 100,000 - 205,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
