Work with a team of engineers to support the hardware design and delivery of Instrumentation & Control (I&C) cabinets and associated electro-mechanical hardware components and subassemblies. Ensure that hardware designs and project documentation meet applicable system & quality requirements. Work closely with manufacturing operations to resolve issues, provide oversight, and ensure products are in accordance with build-to-print drawing packages and specifications.
Responsibilties:
- Design and development of mechanical components and assemblies to ensure seismic integrity and ease of manufacturing. This includes creating 3D models and design packages for cabinets, internal custom metal work, fastener design and fabrication.
- Support the design of cabinet hardware electrical applications and assemblies
- Manage Bill of Material and revision control of mechanical design packages.
- Compile technical and quality documentation for procurement, testing and manufacturing of hardware products.
- Work closely with manufacturing and outside fabricators to resolve issues, provide oversight, and ensure products are in accordance with build-to-print drawing packages and specifications
- Interface with engineering organizations and third-party test facilities in conducting equipment qualification tests.
- Perform engineering calculations in support of design or analysis of products.
- Support resolution of technical issues including obsolescence and material availability.
- Provide support to customers for installation and emergent technical issues.
- Identify and promote process improvements and enhancements to increase quality of work products, drive standardization, and improve manufacturability.
- Provide technical support for product development, project implementation, schedules, cost estimates and proposals.
- Opportunities to travel to customer and supplier sites (domestic and international)
- Execute assignments independently within project schedule and budgetary requirements.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
Education/Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
- 5+ year of experience
- Experience with sheet metal design preferred
- Knowledge of AWS (or equivalent) welding requirements and/or general knowledge of sheet metal welding.
- Knowledge of the various classifications, grades and properties of steel, aluminum and other alloys as well as protective coatings. (e.g., ASTM, ASME, SAE, etc.)
- Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault (or similar) experience preferred
- Experience with Geometric Tolerances and Dimensions (ASME Y14.5)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership skills to support complex and dynamic project execution.
- Ability to gather and analyze input, evaluate alternatives, and make effective decisions.
