Senior Engineer

Purpose of Position

 

Perform Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) activities in support of nuclear power plant safety system projects to ensure that the safety system application software meet all intended design requirements. These activities include:

· Review safety system functional and system design specifications and verify the software requirements and software design meet those requirements.

· Verify safety system software through code reviews and validate through unit or module level testing.

· Write test procedures for and execute unit or module level tests on a representative test bed.

· Verify requirement decomposition from system design to software requirements/design through review of RTM (Requirement Traceability Matrix).

· Document anomalies and track their resolutions.

· Create verification reports and test reports, and provide input to the IV&V Technical Lead to be captured in the IV&V summary reports.

 

Major Responsibilities

· Complete assigned IV&V tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

· Work closely with the IV&V technical leads and design engineers to investigate and document any anomalies, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies in the software documentation and code.

· Provide feedback to safety system project management.

· Collect metrics and provide status on project health, identify recurring issues.

· Interface with system test engineers to ensure test coverage across module, unit, and system test planning.

· Support internal and external inspections and audits that are conducted time to time by the quality assurance organization, customers or regulators.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

· Minimum of BS degree in Engineering or related field

· Minimum 3 years of work experience in related field (software development, software quality assurance, or V&V, preferably in regulated industries)

· Working knowledge of software development preferably using C/C++

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

· Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

· Questioning attitude

 

Desired Knowledge and Skills

· Software development or IV&V experience in embedded systems or control systems is a plus

· Use of DOORS or other requirements management tools in the development of requirements and traceability matrices

· Use of code coverage tools, such as LDRA Testbed or MALPAS

· Familiarity with industry codes and standards, particularly IEEE Standards 1012, 7-4.3.2, 1228, and 880.
