The estimated annual base salary range for this position in the United States can be found in the JOB INFO section below. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Power System Solutions? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering Services team. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.

The global Power System Solutions (PSS) organization is an integral part of S&C Electric Company, dedicated to providing comprehensive service and support for S&C customers. The organization offers services and solutions that support S&C equipment, including field service, engineering, analytical services, and customer support. These specialized divisions work collaboratively to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions for customer distribution, transmission and generation interconnection needs worldwide.

The Automation & Protection team manages the delivery of protection and control and automation projects from the pre-sale stage through post-commissioning customer support, involving solution development, design, programming, testing and implementation. The team also provides specialized tier 3 technical support through the customer support process.

The Senior Engineer is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to configure, test, and provide technical support for Protection and Control systems on electrical distribution networks and associated communication technologies. This includes the integration of S&C switchgear with third-party IEDs for protection and control applications.

Key Responsibilities:

·    Serve as technical lead and actively participate in complex project design, execution, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of protection and control schemes for MV power systems, crossing multiple projects, utilizing microprocessor-based IEDs and automation controllers 

·    Develop, test, and support the commissioning of distribution automation and source transfer applications for utility and commercial/industrial customers

·    Assist in the proposal development process by supplying detailed cost estimates and providing relevant technical insights to ensure a comprehensive and effective submission

·    Support the Field Service team with complex commissioning activities and offer customers post-commissioning support to ensure equipment operates according to customer requirements

·    Apply in-depth knowledge of industry standards and communication protocols to ensure compliance in protection and control projects

·    Create training materials and lead training sessions for both customers and S&C team members

·    Stay abreast with the latest technology advancements, new products, systems, and features and apply knowledge to S&C projects to remain competitive in the market

·    Offer mentorship and guidance to junior engineers by sharing technical expertise, providing constructive feedback, and supporting their professional development through regular touch points and collaborative projects

·    Continue development of Standard Work Practices to aid in effective and consistent project execution, with a focus on simplifying design and increasing efficiency

·    Recognize and adhere to S&C and industry safety practices and champion safe working practices with junior engineers to maintain safety KPIs

·    Maintain relationships with professionals across the organization (including PSS, sales, engineering, product development, operations and safety) to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of shared initiatives and work 

·    Deliver status updates and reports to leadership and project teams at an agreed cadence, leveraging various communication methods to ensure stakeholders feel heard and information flows effectively 

·    Participate in other PSS projects and activities as required by leadership

·    Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules 

 

What you’ll Need To Succeed:

Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):

·  Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and a minimum (10) ten years of experience with electric transmission and distribution systems, specifically automation and protection & Control systems (Master's Degree/PE  license preferred)

·  In-depth knowledge and experience of utility and commercial/industrial best practices for medium-voltage applications and working with protection schemes, relay logic and programming and automation engineering

·   Detailed knowledge of communication protocols/standards such as DNP 3.0 and IEC 61850

·   Detailed knowledge of industry standards including IEEE, IEC and NFPA

·   Proficient computer skills including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook)

·   Familiar with site-based safety protocols and experience interacting with de-energized medium-voltage switchgear

·   Excellent analytical skills and ability to assess data to drive informed decisions and apply a creative approach to problem solving complex issues 

·   Fosters relationships built on mutual trust and respect and is a role model for creating a collaborative working environment amongst diverse audiences

·   Interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships in person and in a remote environment 

·   Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation) able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels from leadership to support staff

·   Able to successfully present to a variety of audiences both small face-to-face interactions through large conferences and formal presentations

·   Creative and persuasive in communicating and influencing outcomes across a broad customer base and with internal stakeholders

·   Practical organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling a heavy volume of diverse projects and tactical assignments

·   Act as a technical leader and leverage subject matter expertise knowledge to train other members of the team

·   Proactive and self-motivated with continuing technical and project management education and skills 

·   Ability to travel as required (domestically and internationally)

 

Major Physical Demands:

Sitting-Frequently required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks for 8 hours at a time approximately [5] days per week

Walking-Occasionally required to walk moderate distances multiple times each day while performing a FAT or on a job site

Manual Dexterity-Frequently required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment/machinery/power tools/office productivity equipment

Observation / Eyesight-Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors

Communication-Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls

Travel-Occasionally required to travel (up to 20%) and work extended hours when necessary. Required to travel overnight and infrequently, on weekends. Infrequently required to travel internationally.
