The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

What You Will Do

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will design, develop, build, and implement new products, components, or technologies. 

Design, maintain, and manage the component design and development of rubber components for Caterpillar engines and machines, ensuring the integration of new products, processes, or technologies to meet customer needsLead projects related to component development and performance evaluations, including project management documentationParticipate in trial and production rubber molding processes, contributing to issue resolution and understanding variables affecting resultsManage component testing, validation, and audits, and communicate results in a concise and accurate manner with dataDesign new test fixtures and manage the maintenance of local test benches, including spare partsIdentify, analyze, and resolve issues with components, test procedures, or test equipmentCollaborate and support process partners, such as internal customers and manufacturing facilities, to enhance product and process performanceSupport NPI, CPI, BIQ and Assurance of Supply projects using performance testing for failure predictions, concept evaluation, and benchmarkingEnsure projects are completed on time and within budget

What You Have:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical, materials science, or a related field

Analytical Thinking:  Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problemsEffective Communications:  Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviorsManaging Multiple Priorities:  Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocationTechnical Excellence:  Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challengesComputer-Aided Design & Engineering:  Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate, and test product design drafts.Product Design - MFG:  Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools, and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product designProduct Design and Development:  Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production

What Will Set You Apart

Hands-on individual with a willingness to work in a lab environmentStrong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in data acquisition systems.Experience with 6 Sigma and PPAP methodologiesProficiency and working knowledge of Instron and/or MTS hydraulic test machinesProficiency in MTS or Instron test controllers and data acquisition systemsProficiency in FEA, Creo, Teamcenter, GD&T, and drawing release processesProficiency in Microsoft Project or other project planning tools

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
