The Mechanical Engine Control Systems group is seeking a highly focused and dedicated Product Drafting Designer who is a team player with a high level of initiative and the ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities in designing and analyzing complex aerospace product.


The role defined here combines two key areas of expertise, Product Design and Product Design Analysis, and the successful applicant will have the skills and flexibility to support both roles.  As a Product Drafting Designer, you will work directly with engineering staff to produce 3D models and 2D layout drawings of the product to meet both engineering and customer requirements. You will be responsible for creating solid models and detailed drawings of various mechanical engine control components and assemblies, performing tolerance studies, and making sure that the models and drawings accurately define a manufacturable product for military and commercial engine programs.

Experience with industry specifications and in-depth knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is used to ensure all drawings are complete (accurate, fully dimensioned and in alignment with Tolerance Studies).

Relevant work, or educational, experience in designing, developing, and analyzing complex assemblies in a 3D mechanical drafting environment is required.  Candidate must have a strong understanding of mechanical principles and demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting models, assemblies, and piece part drawings.   An in-depth comprehension of GD&T practices, along with the tolerance analysis of assemblies and piece parts is required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Work with engineering for initial 2D concept of productCreate 3D product models, outlines, and layoutsCreate solid models piece parts, housings, and assemblies in NX, and manage Bill of MaterialsCreate dimensioned detail component drawings for high complexity piece partsApply tolerance stack-up analysis results to ensure correct fit and alignment, and performance of complex assembliesLead detailing drafters in the completion of component drawings for a design projectCheck drawings for accuracy, correct GD&T, and compliance to the aerospace industry and Collin’s drafting and manufacturing standardsSupport product design reviews and coordinate work with project, engineering, and manufacturing teamsEnsure proper filing, control, and export classification of created design dataAssist with the creating and updating standard work for Product Design and Definition groupAble to work effectively in a team environment, comprehend and implement oral and written inputs and coordinate with project group on each program you supportStrict adherence to the design process is mandatory for successful realization of Collins product for our demanding customers.  Attention to detail is critical to ensure a safe and reliable product is placed into service

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experienceThe ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is requiredU.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearanceMust have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter in the design of mechanical engine components and assemblies is highly preferredIn-depth knowledge of ASME Y14.5M GD&T standardsWorking knowledge of drafting and product life cycle (PLM) tools and general computer literacyAbility to acquire security clearance

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
