Senior Engineer - Durability Analyst

What you will do

We are currently seeking a qualified person for a position within Chassis Analysis and Advanced Calculation team as a Sr. Durability Analyst with the opportunity to work on Diesel, Natural Gas, and Battery Electric Trucks. You will work in a state-of-the-art research and development organization dedicated to providing high-tech transportation solutions primarily to the North American market. The position entails a high level of collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams working on future products, analyzing complex mechanical & structural systems, and ensuring functional requirements are met by providing design recommendations. 

 

As a Sr. Durability Analyst, you will be primarily responsible for evaluating various vehicle components and sub-systems and performing complete vehicle simulations to ensure durability and reliability requirements for North American products are met. You will work closely with various engineering teams within chassis, cab, electrical & testing departments to coordinate and lead complex simulation tasks. In addition, you will act as a technical liaison between engineering and testing teams to ensure test plans are properly executed and in alignment with design targets.

 

We are looking for a talented and customer-focused individual who can effectively communicate with component stakeholders across the vehicle engineering organization and ensure that the components and systems meet the structural design targets. The selected candidate will be expected to provide professional expertise as a fully competent structural analyst and be able to work closely with engineering stakeholders and help drive design changes in the most cost-effective way.


Responsibilities

Perform FEA analysis (Static/Modal, Non-linear, Vibration, Reliability/Durability & Fatigue calculations) on components, sub-systems and complete vehicles to ensure durability/reliability requirements are met Conduct technical research, post-process and analyze simulation results, prepare engineering reports and provide technical recommendations to improve existing and new designs  Liaise with design engineers and testing teams to develop test plans and provide instrumentation roadmaps for durability and reliability testing Perform validation studies to correlate simulation models to test data Work with global technical strategy teams to develop simulation strategies and CAE methodologies Work with project managers and engineering stakeholders to estimate CAE budget for new projects Coordinate and delegate CAE tasks and manage team deliveries  Oversee and manage simulation tasks across engineering teams and, work packages & other tasks with external partners

The Advanced Calculations team is a dynamic team of highly competent engineers who specialize in various CAE disciplines. We are responsible for ensuring functional requirements are met for durability & reliability, thermal management, cooling performance and other mechanical systems for heavy duty trucks developed for North America.

A strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately interpret results and come up with recommendations to meet project goals. Ability to work in cross-functional teams to communicate and agree on the designs for assembly, cost, sourcing and aftermarket servicing. Ability to network with individuals and teams across various departments and sites, share information and resources as needed, and work towards achieving common group goals. Effective communication skills with the ability to listen effectively, transmit information accurately, and actively seek feedback from other experienced engineers, project managers, etc. Capable in performing a wide range of tasks, respond positively to changing timelines and/or project scope, and open to accepting new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments. Demonstrable track record of technical excellence in numerical simulations. Willingness to experiment with new ideas and designs and apply knowledge from past learnings in improving outcomes. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate highly technical information to people of varying technical ability.  A strong desire and passion to create the very best product, working as an integral part of a highly technical organization.

 

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 6 years of industry experience or a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 4 years of experience in structural analysis of mechanical systems. Strong background in fundamentals of structural mechanics, durability and linear/non-linear analysis methods. At least 6 years’ experience in use of commercial FEA analysis tools such as NASTRAN, Optistruct, nCode, Abaqus, Hyperworks etc. At least 5 years of simulation experience in a product development environment, preferably in class 8 heavy duty truck development. Experience with working on Linux/HPC systems. Highly experienced in Linux OS and use of HPC systems for submitting and monitoring CAE jobs. Practical hands-on experience with validation and experimental measurements including design of experiments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 Automotive experience. Experience with CAD (PTC Creo preferred) and component design & developmen. Experience in Motionview, truckSim or other equivalent tools for vehicle dynamics simulations. Experience in shell/linux scripting to automate repetitive tasks. Project management, AGILE/Scrum Master experience. What’s in it for you?
