Senior Engineer - Flood Risk Management

The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a senior engineer in Newcastle with well-developed skills in technical appraisal and business case development. Reporting directly to the team leadership, alongside existing senior staff, this role will involve leading a range of technical tasks, mentoring and supervising more junior staff members, as well as engaging in skills capacity building in technical appraisal across the firm.

The role will be varied and involve: project management; technical flood alleviation scheme appraisal using the FCERM-AG; development and design of fluvial flood risk management solutions; managing project teams to ensure the production of deliverables to quality, timelines, and within budget; coordinating staff resources between projects; providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior members of the team; and supporting senior management in business and technical development.

 

Is this role right for you?

This role will suit someone with demonstrable skill gained within consulting or a relevant client who is passionate about developing business and driving our teams forward. 

We are looking for the following skills and knowledge:

A relevant qualification/Chartered status with either ICE or CIWEM Technical experience in FCERM project appraisal, options development, and both outline design and detailed design Skills in contract administration, project management, and client liaison An excellent communicator with strong technical and financial management skills Awareness of the sustainability impacts of design decisions and a developing understanding of the application of nature-first solutions  Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and the ability to mentor junior staff.

 

Desirable criteria would include:

Experience of flood risk damages assessment and economic appraisal Experience in hydraulic modelling and/or hydrology for fluvial flood risk GIS skills
