Key Responsibilities:As part of Technical Operations, the Senior Engineer – Fleet Structures works within a team of engineers and leadership to provide fleet wide structural engineering support to United Airlines growing fleet of aircraft. Fleet Structures Engineers collaborate with many internal departments to establish, maintain, and lead all aspects of the overall structural health, reliability, and regulatory compliance of the assigned fleet. Fleet Structures Engineers coordinate and lead the priorities for multiple assigned responsibilities and accomplish the work processes to meet all the deliverables for aircraft fleet wide structural projects.
Studies, analyzes, and seeks solutions to fleet wide structural problems related to the design, operation, maintenance, performance, modification, or repair of aircraft, and their componentsUses a structured, logical, and analytical approach in problem solvingDefines maintenance program, configuration, and serviceability criteria ensuring safe and legal operationsAnalyzes and implements regulatory requirements for assigned aircraft fleetEvaluates the effects of modifications or new equipment on reliability and performanceEvaluates the benefits of the cost impact of a fleet decision to ensure an optimum balance of cost, asset utilization, quality, and reliabilityAuthors, designs, tests, and handles projects to provide safe, regulatory compliant, cost efficient and reliable aircraft on time to the airline operationProvides on-site technical support for line and base operations for engineering projectsCommunicates with OEM’s, regulators, and internal customers on technical issues, work scope recommendations, and failure investigationsWorks with internal and external organizations regarding specific aircraft and component issuesThis position develops potentially sophisticated solutions and implementation plans, project justification, cost/benefit analysis, management of project implementation, technical support, and acquiring FAA approvals as requiredCoordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency· Coordinate the priorities for multiple assigned responsibilities and accomplish the work processes to meet all the deliverables for aircraft fleet structural projects or maintenance program changes/technical specification revisionsQualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Aerospace or Mechanical preferred, Chemical or Electrical accepted), related technical field or equivalent relative work experienceMinimum of 5-7 years at an engineer level or similar role elsewhere in the industrySuccessful candidate will have strong understanding of airline or OEM operationsKnowledge of Code of Regulations (CFRs), airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristicsAbility to interpret sophisticated and technical Engineering and OEM documentsHighly detailed level project development and management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific projectsEffective communication skillsMust be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorshipSuccessful completion of interview required to meet job qualificationReliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the positionPosition will be based in Chicago or HoustonCandidate must be available for travel outside of office, domestic and international, to support projects, industry travel and business meetingsWhat will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):Previous experience working within specific ATA Airline Structures ChaptersATA’s 50-57, 71, 78Airline or industry experience with general ATA Chapters which could encompass, aircraft systems, structures, power plant and avionics fieldsExperience with Boeing and/or Airbus commercial aircraft typesKnowledge of aircraft structural design, materials, repair concepts and approval requirementsExperience with Wi-Fi related structural installationsExperience with fleet wide implementation of Supplemental Type Certificates (STC)Knowledge of SCEPTRE and Palantir are a plusFAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificates are a plusThe base pay range for this role is $97,945.00 to $133,540.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
