Who will you be working with?
This position provides a unique opportunity to interact with all locomotive subsystems with controls content while developing the Next Gen Locomotive Control Architecture that modernizes the electronics, software, applications, and network communication, with the objective of improving software quality, improving engineering productivity, meeting cyber security expectations, all while addressing the latest customer needs.
How will you make a difference?
The Senior Engineering Program Manager for Controls and Software will have complete responsibility for programs requiring delivery of locomotive control software to Wabtec’s many global customers of Freight locomotives running MCA control system. This role will govern the entire software development lifecycle for a given program after receipt of order to software delivery. The Program Manager will be responsible for scope control, schedule, and cost internally to the MCA organization. You will interface with internal and external customers including systems engineering, production, field services, and occasionally customers.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering from an accredited universityMinimum of 15 years of experience in an Engineering position, preferably in control systems10 years of experience partnering with business teams and influencing stakeholders in a matrixed organization10 years in program, project, operations, technical leadership, or subsection management preferredSolid understanding of the entire Product LifecycleWhat will your typical day look like?
Create detailed software project schedule utilizing Microsoft Project to identify dependencies and critical path through highly complex technical programsReceive hand-off from locomotive commercial team for scope required to be delivered by the MCA organizationCollect and understand software requirements presented at Tollgate and evaluate budget in ESRComplete tradeoff comparisons considering scope, cost, and schedule to select optimal program plans for the software releasesWork with the Engineering Operations team and program budget owner to ensure approved budget is loaded and track the overall performance of the engineering team to adhere to the budgetWork with a matrixed organization including design engineers, software developers, and validation engineers to ensure the software development lifecycle is followed in accordance with the Tollgate processWork with engineers and PEs to ensure Design Reviews and Action Items required for program completion are addressedDrive completion of Subsystem Design Specifications and Validation plans, as needed for the software program schedule.Communicate project status, schedules, upcoming deliverables, risks, issues, and technical solutions between various stakeholders. Method of communications to include, but not limiting to, design reviews, operational reviews, and core team meetings.Facilitate meetings for conflict resolution and priority calls to ensure the progress of the software requirementsHold responsibility for the overall program risk identification, management, and mitigation. Owns selection of mitigation/ solution in line with business goals. Contribute to best practice, design guides, margin and process improvements.Drive tool and processes optimization, particularly on new platforms; Works closely with quality organization to define and implement new processAct as a mentor within the team including domain expertise and for advice and to determine best practice within Controls and SoftwareWork with Quality, eServices, and Field Services to ensure on-time deployment of software.You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
